it purports that they've found a squirrel/rat thought to have been extinct for over 11 million years.
what do you think, is it possible that maybe this is a new species?
or, a product of copulation between a rat and a squirrel?
or perhaps did they simply discovered an animal no one thought had survived extinction?

Interesting article, calliope. It seems more certain that their find is not a cross between a rat and squirrel, but an ancient relative of both.
But wait, there's more! A whole passel of new species have been discovered in Indonesia.

That is a very cool lobster-thingy, Leolaia! Those long, hairy claw-arms remind me of an ape. LOL
These are interesting discoveries especially when of species thought to be extinct for many millions of years but also generally it's nice to find that there are more unknown companions on the earth that are not just insects.
It can't be an "uncle Bruce". It doesn't hang upside down in a cave!
