    what are the chances of a member of the wtb&ts registering at a united nations conference on their own?

    i think usually this makes how deep their involvement is/was whatever meant.

    Thats on the UN site ^^

    My favourite part in that document is

    In addition, the criteria for NGOs to become associated with DPI include the following:

    1. • that the NGO share the principles of the UN Charter;
    2. • operate solely on a not-for-profit basis;
    3. • have a demonstrated interest in United Nations issues and a proven ability to reach large or specialized audiences, such as educators, media representatives, policy makers and the business community;
    1. • have the commitment and means to conduct effective information programmes about UN activities by publishing newsletters, bulletins and pamphlets, organizing conferences, seminars and round tables; and enlisting the cooperation of the media.

    We expect that you will share this information with your concerned colleagues, as we are unable to address the scores of duplicate requests regarding the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society that are being directed to our offices. Thank you for your interest in the work of the United Nations.

    I believe from previous items that AuldSoul is so defensive of the Watchtower because he wrongly equates them with Jehovah's Witnesses, a different thing altogether.

    Listen, branches and high up individuals in the Watchtower are NGOs (as groups and individuals).

    The Watchtower organization had official NGO status for 10 years, got exposed via the internet, quit the UN affiliation and claimed it had only had the affiliation to get a UN library card to do research.

    #1 NGO status is not needed to get a library card for researching UN library resources.

    #2 They have continued (and are doing so this second) their affiliation with the UN through individuals in the Watchtower Society's top command as well as by the two linked Watchtower organizations mentioned above.

    This shows they have lied and continue to lie. They are also dangerous in their policies enabling molesters and deaths of those dying after refusing emergency blood transfusions.

    All former and current Jehovah's Witnesses need to get the word out on this!

    Thanks, Randy Watters!

    kw13,

    that letter did it for me...the first time i saw it i thought that no one with any knowledge about jws could read that and react with anything short of outrage. UN(dpi)+wtb&ts+obligation to advertise un objectives=UN press releases as articles in the awake

    I have never heard or seen the term "NGO" used in any context other than that related to UN activities or UN relationships, such as when I attended a human rights conference and a family planning conference where NGO members spoke and where UN goals were specifically addressed; so in some sense, I feel the JW interactions at such places does bring into question their true commitment to being "no part of this world."

    They are not "no part" when it's convenient to their agenda, I guess. And they pretend that attending such conferences is part of their ministry, I suppose. But if the average R&F JW just started showing up at such activities and speaking out for Planned Parenthood in Timbuktu or speaking out for human rights in general, or for, let's say to protect gays and lesbians from persecution in Turkey or Saudi Arabia, they'd probably get the boot for it, or, at the very least, public reproof and/or shunning for their political activities.

    And even if they were not attending NGO conferences about gays and lesbians, but rather working with groups like Amnesty International without focusing specifically and only on Jehovah's Witnesses' human rights, I think they would get counseled against it by the elders because such activities would takew away from preaching the JW doctrines and finding "new sheep." Involvement by the avg R&F in political anything is taboo, no matter what they say in the magazines about "leaving it up to conscience." Ultimately, the "conscience" is the elders of the local KH coming to your house to harass you about your lack of activity in the field service, blaming it on your "worldly" involvements, like work and school and playdates for your kids (with "worldly" kids).

    What a bunch of hypocrites!
