when I was a jw I told the people at work who had to know( so I could have time off for meetings *gag*) but now I don't tell people, my close friends know I used to be one and that I consider it a cult and why.

NOPE! I no longer consider myself one. I have a few close friends that know I was raised a JW. The people I work with don't know I was ever one. It's a label I don't wish to have.

I tell people I escaped from a cult. They're fascinated, and then I give them a brief dose of the truth about jw's.

No, but since I am da'd I'm officially not one.

I am not, however, ashamed to admit to having been one, I was in for over half my life, and am more than happy to tell people why I am no longer one.

Finally-Free

I never told people I was a JW, and now I rarely tell anyone I used to be one. It's an embarrassment, it's in the past, and that's where it should stay.

I didn't tell anyone at this job, and I'm so glad I didn't because it was a friend from this job that opened my eyes when she brought up JWs because her brother joined, and she was disgusted. The most I would say is that I have JW family, too. She never would have said the things she said to me about them if I had said I was a JW, even if I was starting to get tired of it and not so active any more. A few friends at work know my family is in a crazy cult, but I don't come out and say which cult. I like my privacy. Even my friend with the JW brother - I never told her how much good she did for me.

I don't say that I am a JW... I say that I used to be part of the religion if people ask. I'm not really about telling people.

I used to tell everybody because I wanted them to know why I didn't celebrate stuff or why I couldn't participate in stuff. Now I make sure to tell those that knew me as a JW that I'm an ex. New people I don't have to tell anything to and it's lovely.

The JW's in this area tell their prospective victims and JW move-ins from other areas that I am an evil opposer to the Truth™.
