Actually, when I was 18 I got myself a pipe and used to puff on it, like, once every 3 months. I used to call it my "seasonal smoke". Very enjoyable. But not taking up smoking on a more regular basis is good advice.

I'll give you a different piece of advice as regards credit cards. Get 3 or 4. Now... only use 1 different one per week to fill your tank with gas and then pay the bill off as soon as it comes in the mail.

As you are now an adult you'll need to build a good credit rating. This will help you in the future for major purchases like a car or home. Also, in the unfortunate event of a financial emergency, you will easily be able to obtain credit as you've built up a good record.

Be careful with credit. Its easy to start spending and get used to the low payment but many people take years to pay off dumb things they really didn't need.

It goes without saying that my baking will be on it's way as soon as you get that PO box. I might even include an inspiring book or two.

Richie, remember to always show your parents the love and respect that they deserve. Let them know that even though you are no longer a Witness that you are still an intelligent person and that you don't intend to throw your life away in debauchery. They may be misguided but they are doing what they are doing because they love you and want to protect you.

As time goes on and they get used to the idea and see that you are doing well things will get better and they will accept your decision. They will see that it came from a great young man. Let them be the ones acting out; don't follow their lead. You should always present a happy, contented face, showing them that you are at peace with your decision. They'll come around!

I was reflecting on what was the watershed moment that convinced me (and my parents) that I was an independent adult.

It was the first time I did something they'd rather I not, and there was not a darn thing that they could do about it. Sure they stomped their feet and wailed a bit, but I had the revelation that was all they could do. Sure, my decision might ultimately be proven to be stupid, but it was mine to make. The consequences were all mine, too.

Of course, all this is stunted in JW youth, because the consequence of independence is so terribly out of proportion.

BOLD ASS) I sure would like to have had a peek with the NOTES........As the one friend said, the book is wtbts but the notes is there interpetation and the way they understood what was said. ( not to mention that they were told to write WORD for WORD) i LIVE A LITTLE North of you and hope you do well......Don't take your freedom and flushe it down the drain, enjoy life to the full but think before you act.
