When I was in, I always had most difficulty with the shunning tactic. I hated having to shun people I had known and liked, but I saw it as Jehovahs will at the time. Df'ing is a double weapon for the wts, designed to keep people in out of fear even when they know they are not in the truth. Get df'd, and we will ignore you is the message, though not one you hear while you are studying. I am sure that a lot would not join if they knew about it. I am not sure how I would have reacted if I'd known when I was studying. I think if studies were told that, there might be a few less jws today.
