Couldn't agree with uour answers more!! Having experienced many of the events you mentioned, I'm just glad that by 50 I finally found my personal peace of mind and really do look forward to each new day regardless of how many days that may end up being. You are truly a fine example of your subject line.

My children taught me to be strong. I wouldn't be who I am today without them.

so true.. Jgnat( see I did finally learn how to spell your name. LOL..).. I see how my kids have grown and are making the most of life and which is also making mistakes and learning from them.. Watching my kids grow gives my life purpose and meaning..I learn alot about who I am by watching them make their paths thru life.

And...one day....you will all learn to spell my name.....

ROFLMBO......I wondered if someone would catch that...hahaha. Awesome post...gives one pause for thought. When life hands you lemons, you make lemonade. You go on...and you become stronger, wiser. Embrace it. When my daughter found herself pregnant at 20, her friends all said the same thing, "you won't have a life anymore, you don't need this right now". I stood back and said, "it's just a turn in the road, kid, embrace it". She has the most beautiful 11 month old son,( I can afford to be prejudiced here ) and she is extremely happy where she is in life.

    Thanks, jgnat.

    Thanks Jgnat!!!

Reminds me of one of my new favorite songs by Rascal Flatts "Stand"

You feel like a candle in a hurricane
Just like a picture with a broken frame
    Alone and helpless
    Like you've lost your fight
    But you’ll be alright

    But you’ll be alright
    Chorus:
Cause when push comes to shove
You taste what you're made of
You might bend, till you break
Cause its all you can take
On your knees you look up
    Decide you’ve had enough
You get mad you get strong
Wipe your hands shake it off
    Then you Stand

jgnat, you're a beacon! Everything you write is touching, considered and wise. I didn't want to say 'wise' because it sounds like old-lady-in-a-cave lore, but it works for you because you keep learning and living. Thanks for being here!

Wow, this thread touched a lot of people. I've never received so many PM's. It was written fast, and written from the gut. I must have touched something in the common human condition.

    keep learning and living

Sass, this is IT exactly. I'm never afraid to admit I don't know something. This prompts kin and stranger to teach me. For instance, yesterday I bought a yard of dirt for my yard. The dirt man asked me how much? And I waved my arms "about this much". His mouth twitched, but to his credit, he saved his laughter for later, "About a yard, then?" I had a similar conversation with the dumptruck man who dropped off the dirt. He asked me where I wanted it put, so I pointed to a corner of my yard. "I can do that ma'am, but I'd have to take down your fence first." His mouth twitched. We negotiated a spot outside the yard. See? Free entertainment for the dirt men, and I learned a bit about their business. The next time I want to build up my flower beds, I can ask for a yard of dirt straight off.
