    Imagine this.
A little child, about 3 or 4, sitting there, looking around...
He leans over and sees his shoe is untied, he looks up at his parent who doesn't seem to care much, almost falling asleep, so he leans over and ties it all by himself for the first time! He smiles proudly and looks up at his parent and tuggs on their shirt. The parent looks down with anger and pinches the little boy on the arm real hard. With tears in his eyes, he looks up as if wondering 'why?', as the parent whispers angrily into his ear, "PAY ATTENTION TO THE MEETING!'....

    So Sad...

    Stiffy,
Did that happen to you? If it wasn't you.

    Damn them all to hell!

    If it was, I'm sorry.

Ok, that just made me really really sad. I was picturing it while I was reading it. I dont think it was shoe tying for me. But those meetings. Sitting there as a young girl... all the children that are going thru this still, right now. Well I guess it taught us to pay attention. Hmmm, no wonder I'm so impatient and cant sit still as an adult!

Very sad indeed. If this is a true memory for you, I'm sorry. Someone should have been there to see your little acomplishment, and given you a kiss on a dry cheek. No tears....

I got told off by my step dad for getting counsel after a bible reading. Wasn't that the whole point? To get counsel? Shit - I want to kill the b*sd.

Well, it wasnt shoe tying, but I did get pinched for just about anything that seemed liked i wasnt paying attention. Was even yelled at for not singing the songs (I was 10 and the made up words didnt make since). I was at my meeting tonight, and there was like only one child who wasn't being spanked or pinched, and thats only cause he's 1.

Yeah that sux! My husband has told me his dad used to reach over and pinch him really hard on his thigh if he didn't think he was paying enough attention to the meeting. Sick! Makes me furious to think about it.

Stiffler, what the hell was it with the pinching thing? You just made me have chills! It was like I was really there all over again.
I remember getting pinched so hard I'd have bruises the next day. For not raising my hand enough times. I was terribly shy as a child (wonder why?) and it made me ill to have to answer publicly.
I'm sitting there, knowing my mom is giving me her evil look.

I know this is the question I studied at home (and tried to put into my own words-(God forbid I should read it word for word!)I raise my hand.....slowly...looking around....praying that Bro. Blake will call on someone else....only one other person..damn!
Please...please call on her...not me.....my hand sags down a little...OUCH!!!! She pinches my arm so I have to raise it higher....he calls on me, but I am in pain and have tears in my eyes and can't remember how to answer in my own words. I read it word for word.....I get a whipping when I get home......

I wonder how many times a JW kid got his ass kicked for not paying attention and goofing around or coloring in a book at the meetings. I've seen it thousands of times, my own sorry ass included. I kick my own ass every day for the way I treated my kids when they acted up or didn't want to to the meetings. Fortunately when I left, my kids were still pretty young, and don't remember much. Were we teaching our kids to be afraid at the meetings, to learn not to question the borg?

My son, whose 15 now, and I were talking about the meetings the other day, and all he could remember was lunch time at the assemblies. I guess it was the only fond memory he had at the meetings.

I used to get hit with a belt after almost every meeting. I used to look around too much. Sometimes if I was extra bad my mom used to twist my ears until they bled. I guess I deserved it.
