    > Parents had to escort their kids to the bathroom and getting a drink of water. They weren't allowed to go on their own so there was no trouble.

That's actually a pretty good idea in these days of child molestation.

    > no standing at the back of the hall even if your back was killing you.
God I remember that one. I just would ignore that one and suffer the dirty looks.

We weren't allowed to eat sweets during the meeting. So after 2 hours everybody had breath that you could strip paint with!!!

    Ariel.

I agree with you about that thing about the "trolling..."

I mean, where else are you going to meet the opposite sex at?

Speaking of dating - that chaperone rule.

It was kind of cool maybe if you were in high school or something - but it was always like - wtf? when you would see two divorcee's in their 40's going out together and needing a chaperone.

They were really strict in my old hall about pierced ears. There was the elder that wouldn't allow his children to have pierced ears, instead they were allowed to wear little stickers in place of earrings (I am not making this up- no actual peircings allowed but you can make it look like you do with stickers)

This didn't go over well with the rest of the hall and just about every female had their ears pierced. Then they informed that under no circumstances should we have more then one earring per ear. In an attempt to cheer me up when feeling very, very depressed my mom took me to get mine done a second time. So now I had two in each ear! What a jezebel I was. LOL

Oooooh I am so glad I have "rediscovered" this site!!!

Let me think, let me think... daft rules we had in our congo, remember I was attached to the South African Bethel and was assigned to their main congo, so extra strict!

White shirts were the ONLY option.

Colourful ties were discouraged. Brown suits encouraged.

    NO BEARDS. Mustaches frowned upon.

Sisters had to wear long skirts... I remember one sister being sent home to change as her skirt length stopped at her knees... this WOULD lead several young brother's astray! And it was mentioned at the service meeting and sisters were reminded about being "chaste and modest"

Also had the "don't sit in the same spot every meeting" rule

Mmmmm been a long time now since I attended a meeting... perhaps I should return and stir some sh!t again!

Yes, there were some adults that needed an escort too.

That's a good one!! So true! You found this out when you had Hall cleaning and your job was the bathrooms. Remember the floor around the urinals? If we had learned that one of our kids had caused trouble, they would be there to clean up. Depending on their age and attitude about what they did would determine what would happen for future privileges.

Only a guy would bring up natural body functions i.e. farts that would offend the Creator of such! - Uncle B.

They had no strange rules and they held no resentment towards those going to university or growing a beard.

Here in New Zealand we were told that we are not allowed to take water drink bottles into the convention because of the distraction it cause's.

If someone having a drink of water is a distraction then the speaker most be very interesting. We were told by an Elders wife that each year they still get a letter to be read out to the congregtion regarding drink bottles in the convention, but because the Elders here don't accept all the silly little rules that filter down from the branch they simply don't read it out to the congregtion and no one hears about it.

Dont sit in the back- those seats are for the dfd ones and the ones that could not arrive on time.

If you were standing at the back of the hall you were told to sit, even if you were standing due to you child.

No one of the opposit sex, unless married and even then it was frowned upon, can go door knocking together. They might have sex while out in service! If only, then maybe more young single ones would have gone out!

We were not allowed to take breaks during service, we need to preach preach!

Men had to have short, short hair and not facial hair at all.

White shirts only and a jacket is a must.

I dont know if any of you had this one, if there was not brother present to give prayer, women had to wear a head covering to show submission!

If you left early during a meeting it was frowned upon.

in our hall an elders child could do all they wanted and not get in trouble, but if you did not have and elder for a daddy or a close friend your were screwed!
