It seems hard to find a JW contact on the internet. I'm a Messianic and I'm trying to get an idea of what JW teach without all the prejudice of the mainstream gossip line. Is there any out there defending the JW beliefs on line?

www.watchtower.org - official site of the Watchtower Society

www.freeminds.org - most comprehensive "anti" website

    We are mostly ex-jws here.

    The official line is at:

    www.watchtower.org

Now if you want to know that they WT Society does, not just what they say, and what sites about the history of the WT, this is the place to be.

I think most people would have a hard time giving you the straight up on the religion. You either have those that buy into it 100% or those who really dislike it. If you want info on it, go onto the JW website, I think it is www.watchtower.org??? I am not 100% sure though that is the right site. Either way, good luck hunting and getting all the information about the religion.

If you go to www.watchtower.org you can fill out a contact page. However this will result in someone knocking at your door.

JWs are a bit paranoid about explaining their faith on-line, primarily because the internet is a common tool of JW-opposers or "apostates".

Well are those here then able to give thier impressions. I enjoy the occasional visits from the JW, in that we have some common ground. Is this a non religious site also? I prefer on line debate, because I have so many bible tools at my finger tips. I did go to the official site and only could find a place to enter my home address for a visit. Home visits are too difficult for me to schedule.

Is the WatchTower really considered by JW to be the final authority even over scripture?

Are JW really not allowed to vote?

    Thanks for the links...

Is the WatchTower really considered by JW to be the final authority even over scripture?

Yes, ultimately, the watchtower corp is the final say. They will use scripture to back it up, however they will use scriptures out of context if necessary and often it's quite necessary.

They claim that the watchtower corp is god's chosen mouthpiece, so therefore what they say, goes!

Ultimately, in my opinion, most witnesses are doing a passive form of worship to the watchtower corp without even realizing it.

Yes on the Watchtower as the final authority for JWs. Regarding voting, at one time it was grounds for disfellowshipping, (kicked out) but it is now officially "personal choice", however, that said, I understand it is still conidered "spiritual weakness" and will get you "marked" as bad association and "weak". Treatment can be mild to complete shunning.

I'm a Messianic and I'm trying to get an idea of what JW teach without all the prejudice of the mainstream gossip line

What they say and what they teach differ

    • They say they're the most loving people on earth - I don't think they have one charity, except for telling you stuff that they want you to hear
    • They say they aren't prophets, but they say they speak for God, and as exclusive agents at that.
    • They say the "follow bible principles", but marginalise whoever they feel like - like if you ask the wrong questions, or even wear a beard, or don't tow the party line (right or wrong)
    • They say you should question your religion, but consider you're probably an apostate if you question them

It goes on forever .............................and hence the "mainstream gossip line"

They have a different and selectively variable definition of words from the normal population - eg. a lie is something intentional by them if indeed you deserved to know the truth, or any untruth by you. Changing their mind at anytime about this "truth" is also not considered to be an error, but rather the further development of "new light".

Learn in their language to learn what they teach
