And don't forget to translate it back into the language of your mind - I think that's where a lot of confusion about it all comes from

    I abstain from Blood

I believe in ONE God and Father...

But... Yes the 'authority of the WatchTower" bothered me when the young missionary lady was not allowed to look at scriptures in the bible that contradicted the Watch Tower statement.

I've been invited to a meeting and well, I'm Covenental and keep the feasts and the seventh Day sabbath. It would not interfere with my schedule, but is it a waste of my time to try speaking at such a meeting?

Are you saying that you abstain from literal blood, as jws do ?

I don't know about speaking at a jw meeting - from what I understand, the information is only allowed to flow one way if it is not the same theme of information - ie. you can speak back to them what they speak themselves, but that's about it, especially in any public sense.

I really don't think you will have a hard time getting your questions answered as to what JWs really believe on this site. I know I wouldn't give you any fluff or "anti" arguement if you simply asked for what the belief is.
Their website is a good start. I think the best source of what their teachings are is their "study" books. They give a pretty good point by point of what they believe.

    *** w94 10/1 p. 6 The Bible—A Book Meant to Be Understood ***

There are in the Bible some puzzling sayings, perplexing questions, and profound statements that require unraveling. They may be intentionally obscure, employing meaningful comparisons that were not meant to be understood at the time they were written. But they did involve Jehovah’s purposes. For example, Revelation 13:18 says that "the number of the wild beast" is "six hundred and sixty-six." While the verse says that "here is where wisdom comes in," it does not explain the significance of that number. Jehovah, through his organization, however, has allowed his loyal servants to understand its meaning today. (See box, "Channel to Understanding the Bible.") You too can gain this understanding with the assistance of those who are experienced in "handling the word of the truth aright."—2 Timothy 2:2, 15, 23-25; 4:2-5; Proverbs 2:1-5.

    CHANNEL

    TO UNDERSTANDING THE BIBLE

JESUS assured us that after his death and resurrection, he would raise up a "faith-ful and discreet slave" that would serve as his channel of communication. (Matthew 24:45-47) The apostle Paul identified this channel to the Ephesian Christians when he wrote that "there might be made known through the congregation the greatly diversified wisdom of God, according to the eternal purpose that he formed in connection with the Christ, Jesus our Lord." (Ephesians 3:10, 11) It was the congregation of anointed Christians, born at Pentecost 33 C.E., that was entrusted with the "things revealed." (Deuteronomy 29:29) As a group, anointed Christians serve as the faithful and discreet slave. (Luke 12:42-44) Their appointed assignment from God is to provide spiritual understanding of the "things revealed."

Even as Bible prophecy pointed forward to the Messiah, it also directs us to the close-knit body of anointed Christian Witnesses that now serve as the faithful and discreet slave. It helps us to understand the Word of God. All who want to understand the Bible should appreciate that the "greatly diversified wisdom of God" can become known only through Jehovah’s channel of communication, the faithful and discreet slave.—John 6:68

That faithful and discreet slave is represented today by the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses, which has as its publicity agent the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society.

    Hmmm blondie

Well I guess I believe those to be hideous mistranslations and interpretations. The only interpretive governing body IMO would be the Sanhedrin. I am so excited that the Sanhedrin has been reestablished for the first time in thousands of years. However like the Watchtower, they may presume to have more authority than heaven, claiming it is given them by God. Seems a common error in the Ekklesia. Like the Pope, Nicene Creed etc... However if I chose to live within a community or nation, I would seek to follow all ordinances to the best of my ability as long as they did not break Torah.

    A Paduan,

I am saying I do not use or consume blood products in any manner. No Vaccines, No plasma, no red cells no white cells. I would never agree to give an organ or to receive one. Taking the blood of the unsaved to save me from eternity with God, to me is unreasonable use of human knowlege.

I also do not use mold based antibiotics. Both blood and mold uses incure curses. I'd never judge anyone's Halacha (observance before God) But it is my Halacha. But then again I have seen God heal both big and small things and do believe if God intends me to live he will see that I have enough blood. I have hemorrhaged several times, and God stopped the flow. I'm glad to be alive, but would also rejoice to see my God. Blessings

Bananna, I must say, your perspective is fascinating. I notice you picked up right away on the "hideous" misuse of scripture that the Governing Body has used to legitimize their authority.

I am curious about your strict health regimen, including abstaining from blood. I have come to the conclusion that life itself must not be valued less than the symbol of life, blood.

I do not see from the scriptures that the Almighty God wishes us to hurry us along to eternity, but rather, treasure the gift of life here on earth, as long as we are given.

    banana,

Some groups with similar an interesting ideas are the

Christadelphians - They maintain similar views on the nature of Christ and believe that the faithful will live forever on a paradise earth

Armstrong groups - These are several break-away sects from the Worldwide Church of God. Two websites I am aware of for these guys are www.thercg.org and www.tomorrowsworld.org (the second one has a tv show!)

Bible Students - These folks believe most of the stuff the JW's do, since this is their founding group. It was started by Charles Taze Russel. When he died Joseph Rutheford took over the publishing company and renamed them the Jehovah's Witnesses. Those who did not wish to go with him remained Bible Students.

    Hope this helps!

This was more timely than you know. Thank you.
