Does anyone speak welsh and not English as well? I don't think so.

I think there must be about 29 people in Wales who actually speak the Welsh language, so there's clearly a demand to establish a translation committee for them!! :)

Next thing you know, there will be Geordie and Cockney translation committees set up!! As long as it adds to the Org's catalogue of trumpet-blowing statistics.

The Searcher - "That nails it for probably countless tens of thousands of Witnesses - and I'm certain that a lot of Elders are amongst them!"

I'm betting that a significant number of those very same people would straight up and walk if they thought they could do so without any repercussions.

Magnum: I believe that a lot of JWs secretly wonder about and doubt certain JW things, but they're scared to say so. Or maybe they think they're only ones who feel that way - that something is wrong with them for feeling that way - so they keep silent ....

    Dude, you nailed it!

I know for a long time I thought I was the only one that suspected something was wrong in JW-Land. I would try and drop little hints and innuendos to other JWs, but either they didn't see the same problems or were to terrified to share. That's a very lonely feeling.

It was very encouraging when I was directed to this forum and found out that thousands see the same hypocrisy and lies that I saw.

It's actually quite accurate. Very few people speak welsh but those that do are very militant about it and often quite anti-english. It's an artificially sustained language only kept alive because of politics and survives in no small part due to discrimination (e.g. government jobs for Welsh speakers only). Making kids learn Welsh at school is a terrible waste of opportunity IMO when they could be learning world-useful skills instead.

Because of the politics it's possible that there are government grants or more favourable decisions available to you should you be doing something to promote the welsh language.

I actually worked on a website for the welsh government many years ago. Very few people read the welsh versions of pages, not even the people who complained if there was an english page with no welsh version available.

To dispense with 1914 is to loosen the grip on the organization's claims to be the sole dispenser of" the truth".

It may well be logical - and honest - for them to acknowledge they have promoted an errant teaching by successively making claims about it which have subsequently required "adjustment" and/or abandoning. For example, the inside cover blurb on the Awake! highlighted for decades the "fact" that, among those old enough to witness the outbreak of World War One, some would still be alive to witness the end. This blurb was finally stopped in the early 1990s. Who noticed? We need not wonder why the blurb's burial was without "obituary".

Even so, it would be total foolishness for them to acknowledge they were wrong. It would unravel the stitches on the flimsy fabric that binds together their "authority":

Drop the 1914 doctrine and every other JW teaching comes unstuck.

Steve2: Drop the 1914 doctrine and every other JW teaching comes unstuck.

It's not as if there is any internal coherence to the JW "theology" as it is.

1914 is really just a slogan for them, one of their main "go to" pieces of cult propaganda.

That's exactly the way it was for me, too.

    Great thread!

The comments shared have hit the nail on the head so well!

I hope this thread can be kept at the top of the list for many others to read too....

What I find sickening is the way the WTBTS slide gently from one false perspective to another with no insider challenging the religious politics and prophetic failures which inevitably force those changes.

Surely no JW teaching has been more instrumental in bringing in more money and publishers than the false hope of the 1914 generation who would ”see the end of the system of things”. This amounts to a colossal fifty year hoax.

Today without the “1914 generation” all the previous half century’s propaganda has been exposed as utterly futile. All those talks... the false hope, all that printed page... all those lives wasted on this false doctrine. All hot air and futility. And yet 1914 was played by the org as their golden card for believing in them.

Now they lack any distinctive success to brag about, so they distract the disappointed sheep with a bright new toy. Blind them to their false teachings of the past, fudge over the errors and direct attention elsewhere.

Of course they now realise that the answer for mind control as any demagogue always knew, is media control ...and hence their very own snazzy jazzy internet indoctrination machine. To control the minds of people: use the media.

I do hope it turns round and bites them in the bum and the doubters within the org feel justified in leaving...in droves.
