I wonder how the dubs will react if this ever comes in? Article in local free paper.

The JWs would likely go to court and insist on their right to "preach" since they don't view themselves as salespersons. I think a "no trespassing" sign or a "no Jehovah's Witness" sign would be more effective in their case.

The Dubs will ignore it because, as they claim, they are not "selling" anything. I remember being taught that No Solicitors signs do not apply to JWs for that very reason. Too bad JWs are lying in that regard.

This whole problem can be solved by placing a very simple sign on your property: No Trespassing

That will even stop Jehover's Witnesses because it will give you the right to press charges.

It's a great idea, and the Witnoids know darn well it means them, but they'll pretend it doesn't. Oh, we're not selling anything; we're sharing the good news, or we're not selling; we're taking voluntary donations so the sign didn't apply to us! And they wonder why householders find them so annoying!

It would never fly in the States--there is too much caselaw and legal precedent backing Witnesses up. The UK may be a different story, though--can any of our British members speak to that?
At present they respect "No Jehovah's Witnesses" and "No Trespassing" signs--that's really the best way to go.

They can claim that they are not selling anything but everyone knows that they are selling books and magazines. That's how they built up a large part of their wealth apart from big donations they got from naive members.

We always ignored the no soliciting signs. We would work the apartment complexes until the management chased us out. Then they started putting up all those privacy gates at apartment complexes. Then came the letter writing campaign. I actually knew someone who became a Witness because of a tract received in the mail.

The WTS will no longer fight "no trespassing" cases and have advised the rank and file that if they ignore them, the rank and file are responsible for any citations, fines, etc.

This week at the book study, at all congregations in the U.S., a letter was read saying if you go to a house or property with a "No Trespassing" sign, you must not enter, or knock on the door. You have to leave immediately.

A sign saying "No Solicitors" is too ambiguous, and they are to use their own judgment, and don't have to knock.

If it says "No Jehovah's Witnesses", you also must leave. Don't try to talk to them.

I thought this was pretty interesting. There must be some lawsuits out there.
