Although I love my parents, very often they lie to try to get out of a jam. Then they have to lie again to cover the first lie. And often for really stupid reasons, they will lie instead of saying the truth and being direct. I'll give an example: My dad came out of the hospital yesterday. Since he is still weak and tired, he rathers to tell people that he came out 2 day later, so that he won't get any visitors home because he feels too tired and weak to receive any visitors. Then he tells me, if so and so calls or comes over, just don't say that I,m out of the hospital yet. So there has to be a 2nd lie to cover the 1st lie.
I told him and my mom, why don't you say the truth, and just say, that you came out of the hospital yesterday and that you're not feeling good enough to receive any visitors now or even in the near future. And I'll let you all know when I'll be better.
But they rather say a stupid lie instead. And often, I notice they will lie, to get out of a jam, instead of being direct.
I don't know if this has anything to do with the older generation, but it seems to me that youngsters or even people my age (mid 40's) don't lie to get out of a jam as much.
