I asked the same thing later. Didn't they know there weren't going to be any baptized? I asked Dave and he said that you never know and someone may come from another area, that was sick for their own assembly. Sounded lame to me.
In the London, OH Assembly Hall there were two CAs back to back where no one got baptized. At one of them, Sam Calhoun (a very good speaker) gave the talk. I felt sorry for him. Several points in the outline specifically called for him to address the candidates...he said so a few times by accident, then went back and had to rephrase.
LEt me see, in the last 6 Assemblies we had here in my NYC; these were the # baptized:

they still do the talk, but finish the talk into a recruiting trip
