I'm an American and proud to be an American. But I get tired of rabid patriot-types who insist that the U.S. has the best of everything in the world. I think that's a myth and a potentially dangerous myth. I've done some traveling in my life and done some comparisons here and there, and found that there's plenty of great stuff elsewhere that the U.S. could do well to imitate.

If the bible is in fact...NOT gods word, then we have to wonder how many myths it also contains...
A myth isn't always a wrong concept. It can be a carry-over from other societies and cultures and believed upon by blind faith without any knowlege of the belief itself as to WHY it's believed upon.

Parakeet, I agree with you that all super patriotic people everywhere are immature and narrow minded. There are always interesting things in other countries and cultures.
Gumby I don't think that a Chritian's faith should be based exclusively on the Bible which may well contain some myths. -

How about global warming..........? I haven't read the book, but everyone who has read "State of Fear" by Michael Crichton, tells me he exposes the global warming myth.
Maybe things are getting warmer, but they have been for thousands of years. Not a new thing. Everything in nature cycles, and that's one of those things.
Another is that an infant's brain is so undeveloped that they can't feel pain. They actually used to operate on newborns without anaesthetic.
One more: You will sleep better if you have a drink before bedtime. Wrong. Alcohol is a stimulant and unless you get to sleep immediately, it's almost like drinking coffee at bedtime and will keep you awake. -

I don't think there would be such a thing as a "christian faith" were it not for the bible.
Let's say there NEVER was a bible written. Do you think the christian message would have been passed down for 20 centuries by word of mouth and resembled the christian message we have today?
Without the bible......you may never have known a jesus existed......especially because OUTSIDE of christian authors who HAVE written about him, nothing is written about him other than ones relating what christian author's wrote. Let's remember....even Josephus's little paragraph about him was a forgery by another.....a christian writer.
