Elders, and other CLERGY, can no longer go to the patient lists in hospital and scan for names. The list is now CONFIDENTIAL...!

Article in the newspaper of September 7, 2001

Unless you stipulate, upon admission, that you DESIRE a visit, the elders will not even know.

This change, I am sure, is based on the practice of JW blood gestapo frequenting the hospitals and scanning the patient lists under the guise of CLERGY PRIVILEDGE, looking for JWs sneaking into hospital and getting blood based treatment.

The actions of the elders was deemed against the law of patient confidentiality, and so their privelidge was CUT.

ELDERS STAY OUT is now the new law. Thanks CAESAR!

It amazes me how little people care for the important stuff.

When the 'site idiots' post nonsense that has no meaning for anything, folkes flock to it. But when something very impportant happens that will have a profound effect on the workings of the WTBTS, nobody is interested.

I bet that a week after the WTBTS is crushed, this board will still be going strong. Youknow and Fredhall will still be posting garbage. People will still be name calling. And the posters will still be posting irrelevant information about nothing.

    Bx,

I never knew elders that went to hospitals to see who was there, on the list. It was hard enough to get there when you heard an announcement.

I do agree patient confidentiality is very important. It's probably more of a risk from witness employees in such positions, that would break law for the big bad WT.

Well done, BX; this is indeed welcome news! The HLC is probably one of the most evil institutions conceived by man - good to see the secular authorities taking steps to thwart it.

    Hi bx,
    Thank you for the info
No hospital wants the legal liability due to violating medical confidentiality.
    Hurray for Canada!
Great news. Canadian JW's who know the blood directives are bogus and nonsensical can breath a somewhat sigh of relief! regards,Tina

    Hi bx,

So true. Important and well-researched postings here are ignored or, even worse, becomes a thread about something completely else, usually developing into some sort of flame fest with tweedledee or tweedledum or whoever.

It is hardly rewarding to write well-researched info, when it goes ignored because the three uber-whiners keep their own five meaningless threads at the front page by patting each other at the back.

Thanks for sharing, and for keeping it at the top, or I might have missed this. Do you have it confirmed it was indeed WTS HLC policies that prompted this law change?

I personally know several elders on hospital visitation and I know their intent was to provide support for those, especially from out of town getting medical treatment in the city.

The use of the term "blood gestapo" is a bit extreme in most cases, since most Witnesses willingly refuse blood, and most wish to have the support of the elders, especially those who list their religion on the patient lists.

Some of these men are very compassionate in their motives and the time they spend. Unfortunately, because of misinformation, such visits would also include strengthening the resolve of members to refuse blood where this was applicable.

The real tragedy is the Society's refusal to educate these elders and their members and alter their blood policy. Whether elders are permitted to examine the patient lists or not, the fact remains that most will continue to refuse blood because of misinformation.

This legal change is no doubt a blessing in some ways for patients. In other ways it is unfortunate for those who appreciated the visits and support.

    Hi Path!
According to the stipulation in that post, all a JW needs to do is let the hospital know if they want an elder visit. They're not banned. Just put someones name on your list is all.'Mr so-in-so (elder) wil be stopping by,it's OK to send him up.(patient authorization)
They and clergy just dont have free and random access to an admissions list.
    warm regards,T
