Seeker4: Do you know how many records I destroyed, that are now collectors items? I might be retired by now!

yes warlock, I can't put my story up either, anyone in the area would recognize it. my family and I have said it is like being in the mafia. even if we don't go, we really can't do very much, like join another church, openly celebrate the holidays, etc, they would catch us and Df us. We don't have too many people left that it mattters to, but there are a few. So I would rather walk away on my own terms than be Df or forced DA. but was informed recently that many jws feel the inactive have made a decision to DA themselves and treat them accordingly.

Wed: So it's "Let's abandon the weak among us, and let's go associate with those worldly sinners to see if we can find some recruits". Shouldn't those in the "House of God" be of the first and primary concern?

G.G./B.G.: I don't know if you are old enough to remember this, but some here are. We had a talk at the D.C. entitled 'Beware, Music that Debases', which was eventually turned into a W.T. study. While trying to live up to the standard of that talk, I missed most of the fine music that flowed thru the airwaves of the 1980's. Come to find out later, many of the friends had not only continued to listen, but they purchased the music.

The same thing with movies. Remember, "G stands for Garbage. PG stands for Pure Garbage"? After that talk, I didn't go to the movies for years, and I still don't. What a sheep I was!

I don't remember that specific talk but there were many like it and many WT articles too. I got rid of many albums as a result. I've bought some of them again. But the money lost...not to mention the sentimental value at times.

The movie thing is so ridiculous! It seems I can't keep up with so many conversations now because my non-Witness friends will reference these great movies that I never saw because they were rated R. Then I feel like a sucker all over again for having done what I thought I was supposed to do, something that many around me were not bothering to do. And if I say I didn't see it, they ask why not, and I feel dumb saying "because it's rated R," so I make up some other dumb story. I don't not watch movies now. What do you see in the movies that you don't see in the news?

Oh well, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right? And gives us more fuel for this forum.

Glad to have ya here, Warlock. Take care. Love you too.

You are so right warlock!! That's why talking with the different people here and considering their stories is very therapeutic.

Juni And I want to add: I remember the talk, "Music that Debases". And the counsel from our PO that we should not see any movies that are not G-rated. But in his home they were watching PG13 movies. And a lot of swearing and silent treatments given to his wife. This was because my kids were friends of their kid and saw it first hand. Now how do you explain that to your kids? You can't. They saw through the hypocrisy at a young age, but I kept the blinders on. How sad.

waiting for something that is probably not going to come in my lifetime, but I was told that it would be coming "soon". I did not prepare for the future, which has become the present.

    Hello,

I specifically remember the co giving a talk about how education was a waste of time because none of it will matter in ten years.

I also remember a Watchtower that said something like Are you planning for a retirement in this world is that wise blah blah blah .

Then you look at the retired watchtower conducter living good on his pension and other investments and think oh this is one of those things that needs to be taken with a grain of salt.

    Welcome to the forum!!

We are glad you decided to post! We all completely understand your feelings. It is infuriating to look back like you said on such wasted time. I feel the same way, as I was raised in the orgnization myself. And it was only a little over a year ago, I allowed myself to sincerely look at the "truth" with my eyes wide "open". Try not to dwell on the past. I know it is easy to say, but, there is nothing we can do to recapture the time that has past. However, we do have control to a large degree to what happens from here. Helping others get out, has helped me heal. If I had never been born in the organization, who knows where I would be today. But I try and look at the positive things in my life and use my past to help others. Because with my experience being in for all those years, I am now able to try and be of help to others. Hang in there, and know you are NOT alone in your feelings! We would like to hear more from you! I was told once on this forum that posting was like journaling. But better!! Again, welcome!

    Sincerely,

    Lady Liberty
