Awake only published once a month but still pitifully poor!

Looking through the latest copy of the Awake that I got from my wife who has just got back from the meeting.
What strikes me is that although the Awake is now only published monthly it is still the same old tired format. 'Watching the World' still has the same pathetic cartoons, and the style and tone of the articles are just the same.
Given the major change in moving from twice monthly to monthly, surely they could have gone for a total re-vamp. Sack all the existing editorial staff, bring in some new blood and ideas and take the opportunity to do something exciting with a magazine that has a guaranteed captive market.
    What a waste!

This was not a real relaunch but just cost-cutting.

I agree, I have read high school newspapers with more debth than this mag. It seems to be geared toward young teens although my daughter who is 13, always felt the writing was too boring and infantile even for her age group.

It is theocracy here in the WTS, expecting a drastic change of old and trusted writers with new ones, that is going too far with your hopes. Only a very small inner circle is allowed to write anything for the dubs.

I can't imagine there would be too many young people who would be into the magazines now.

The younger generation is so much more switched on than we ever were - what with TV, playstations, computers. My teenage nephew says it takes him 5 minutes to study the WT. They are quite vocal about expressing their boredom with the mags too! We didn't dare.

... it is still the same old tired format.

Well it will be, they have nothing new to say, and the cutback on production was not done to improve the content, merely to save money.

    I would turn this around:

Why should they waste time and money to change a magazine that has a guaranteed captive market?

Because the captive market no longer supports bi-monthly Awake publication. Pretty soon the captive market won't be able to support any Awakes at all. The WTS should've started doing what the LDS did. That is to promote education and promote getting rich. Afterall they still were able to maintain cult status and make money.

Reading the grocery flyers are more exciting than reading Awake.
