Awake only published once a month but still pitifully poor!

The claim was that the monthy edition is going to focus more on the Bible, rather than just the traditional feel-good nature stories. But I have seen absoltely no move in that direction. There are stil the usual articles extolling the virtues of the exotic upity tree, sozzle cake from Ulan Bator and the kookie bear, with the obligatory tag on at the end "Jehovah made these, isn't it wonderful! (compare Psalm 234:32)."

Wasn't the big spin in the KM last "More emphasis on the Bible!!! !!! !!!"

Frankly, I don't see any change at all in that area. They did cut the "Watching the World" from 2 pages to 1, and added a "quiz page" to page 31, but other than that, there are no changes whatsoever. There certainly isn't any more "emphasis on the Bible". There are the opening 3-4 articles, the last of which might contain 3-6 scriptural references. There is the "What is the Bible's Viewpoint?" article, which has been in there for a while. And there is the "Young People Ask" article, which might contain 3-4 scriptural references. Everything else is just as fluffy ("The Aardvark--Miracle of Creation!") as before.

I agree with the above, it was cost-cutting, nothing more.

It's a spiritual bowel movement, and as with literal bowel movements, doing it less frequently doesn't make it better.

    Nathan Nates,

As someone with IBD I must disagree... less frequently is better.

as a bethel elder once said ... all the topics are copied from another source and they just add the concluding parragraph throwing in Jehovah's name. Now that is "fast (spiritual) food" to go. Yeah, to go out the trash!

slimboyfat - I agree with you totally! I thought that the idea was to change the 'focus' of the Awake.
Personally, I don't see any difference, just the same old tired articles.
Also, given that the name is Awake, you would think you find things in the Awake first. The way things usually work out is that you've read other articles in National Geographic Magazine, Readers' Digest, Time Magazine, etc, way before Awake catches up.

It may be the same old format, but the addition of the monthly horiscope with an interesting change.

    RubaDub,
Does make me think though. Do they have the crossword any more? I always found it an insult to my intelligence!

What about an "Agony Aunt" section, where desperate readers send in their personal problems to a kind hearted and all wise elderly sister who could mention some vague biblical reference and then tell them to ignore that shit and ditch the bastard?
