I don't think you should not go just because it is a Mary Kay party. I have had plenty of friends in the past that have had Mary Kay, Tupperware, Pampered Chef, etc., other type sales parties for the excuse to get together. No one felt they had to buy, and it was usually fun. Remember, without holidays and birthdays, etc., some people feel there is no excuse to have get togethers.

Call your friend and ask her if there will be JWs there and let her know that you don't want it to be ackward for you or her. If you really considered this person a friend, I say go. If she studied long enough to know how JWs are supposed to shun people, then she is being gutsy inviting you because she misses you and doesn't want to shun you.

If you don't want to go, just call her and ask if you can get together for coffee or something. It sounds like she misses you too. I would give her the benefit of doubt.

First of all bboy, Venice would kill you.

Mary Kay is not a cult...Mary Kay is not a cult...Mary Kay is not a cult...Mary Kay is not a cult...Mary Kay is not a cult...Mary Kay is not a cult...Mary Kay is not a cult...Mary Kay is not a cult...Mary Kay is not a cult...Mary Kay is not a cult...

Oh sorry. I was just doing my relaxation chant that Venice gave me.

Anyway, Vitameatavegamin I would totally go. Do you like Mary Kay? Do you like this girl that invited you? Then go. Why should you feel uncomfortable? The other dubs should feel uncomfortable. Not you. You've done nothing wrong.

Maybe they will start to look at the girl that invited you differently and she will feel the "awkwardness" of being on the wrong side of the stick so to speak.

When you go, make sure you are happy and everything in you life "is great and terrific". Do not let the dubs have a reason to think that they are justified in staying dubs because "worldly" people or spiritually weak people are miserable.

Sales schemes that shamelessly use your friends and family to make sales is so evil. I mean, c'mon! They are imposing on friendships. Hey good friend, come over, im having a party...a mary kay party (dum dum dum) Now normally, declining a party invite is rude, but you know that this isnt a normal party but a friggin sales presentation!!! The fact that you dont 'have' to buy anything makes no difference. If you dont, it will also look rude. The profit ultimatley goes to mary kay. You are aiding an already bloated corporation. If your friend invited you over to demonstrate her cool new product that she herself made, thats slightly different. Its still imposing on your friendship, but this time it more genuine friend party.

    About going to the party...

A very wise man once said, "When people speak evil against you falsely, live so as to prove them wrong."

It takes time, but eventually those with eyes to see notice that you aren't the one who deserves the cold shoulder.

BTW -- When smiling, looking those people directly in the eye, and forcing them to speak to you or be obvious in acting like jerks in front of outsiders, speak clearly and loudly enough so everyone can hear that you are not saying/doing anything that would justify their treatment of you.

You goal is to have as many people as possible asking themselves, "Why are those rude women ignoring that sweet, friendly woman?" If you've accomplished that, you've done good.

    Good luck and have fun!!

You know what would be funny? Bring an AMWAY catalog and co-opt the party!

    Mau-Mau Mary Kay!
