Your intimation that everyone should get a grip and take responsibility is again way too simplistic; the majority on this board are here not because they dont want to take responsibility for their own actions but because they simply have been spiritually and often emotionally abused by the WTS.
I wasnt suggesting that people not take responsibility, but there is a clear question as to what degree of responsibility they should be expected to take, of course this has to take into account their emotional and mental health, their conditioning, and also their ability to learn and critically evaluate amongst other issues.
Your sarcasm doesnt do much for your argument either.

What is Hypnosis exactly? We __assume__we know, but; do we know?
One of my heroes, James Randi, is highly dubious about the very "fact" of hypnosis. I am too.
Lowered awareness is a bad habit. The habit is certainly encouraged by be TOLD what to think. JW's aren't analytical thinkers. They assume they are. What they are given is stimulus response patterns. They are taught to think in terms of how they are to react.
Is this hypnosis? Not in my book.
Lazy mental habits and a lack of dilligent focus lower the threshold of evidence for the mind.
Jehovah's Witnesses are taken to a mental state by indoctrination and fear whereby anything which comes from Brooklyn is TRUTH and no other source is to be trusted.
If you ask the average JW what they personally think about such and such they will run to their publications and "research"
what they are supposed to think.
Is this hypnosis or a dead intellect?

When everyday ordinary people all around the world all act the same way, believe the exact same things,hate the same people etc....you have to wonder. If a person stops going to the meetings that is when sometimes a person starts seeing 'the truth'. Why do they push meeting attendance SO much? Although I don't know if its hypnosis....it has to be something.

I fully concur with pistchio on the opinion that once a jw child becomes a jw adult, it is their DUTY to fully examine all aspects of the lifetime religion that their PARENTS CHOSE {FOR} THEM, that has been shown to enforce lethal policies, and determine for themselves, now as adults, if they WILL continue on.
It is one of the main things that perturb me so.

I agree as an adult you have to take responsibilty. But, it's in a way different for JW children...Because, you were taught growing up you had the right religion. You could even prove it to others . You studied with your parents so you were learning the 'truth' to. There wasn't a need to re- examine it as in adult. They didn't just tell you what to believe. You learned it on your own. You had no reason to believe that it was wrong. But, it's not till your an adult that your mind can reason and even think something is wrong...yet there is many that still will never question it. Because the religion is so deeply enbedded into their whole life. You can easily think (and were taught) that everything could be wrong but the one thing that is a fact and right was the religion.

Oh trust me, I know how difficult it was to stop the tapes in my head about this belief system that was forced upon me as a young girl. It took years to gain my own system of beliefs.
It was simply my responsibility to do so. Or live a life of uncertainty.
