I was taught if you have an offence against a brother, first go and speak to him alone, so that the two of you have a chance to work it out.

In reality, I've never known that. I was grassed up to the Elders for something I WASN'T doing by someone who I never associated with in the Congregation (I found out later). She had no grievance with me, and if it wasn't for the fact she was a dub (and so was I at time), where else could she have gone to cause trouble over a 'rumour'?

I found it to be the elders' wives that were the "busybodies". They knew all kinds a stuff that they shouldn't have known about....Hmmm....can't imagine how they found out.......

Grissom, I don't see how your comment relates. This is a discussion board. That is, someone starts a discussion on something, sometimes asking for feedback or advice, and we respond. How is that nosing in to their business?

I'm not out there hunting down the posters to find out personal stuff about them. If someone tries to do that with me (and it DOES happen, usually by PM), I have the freedom to ignore them.

I agree, Mary. The worst busybody I ever knew was an elder's wife. I'm pretty sure she thought she should have been the elder in the first place. She calls on disfellowshipped folks all the time, she goes back again and again to see inactive ones who've told her to get lost, she tries to pump people for information about other people, she knows everything, or thinks she does...a real theocraptic warrior woman.

I knew several elders wives who were privy to a lot problems going on in the congregation. They would comment about how this one or that one had been talked to by the elders about this or that. Perhpas they were eavesdropping on their husbands when they were on the phone or maybe they were being told by their husbands. Another sister (elderette) would tell people she worked with out in service that there would be an announcement about this or that tonight at the meeting or that so and so would be reinstated/reproved tonight, etc. She seemed to take delight in the fact that she knew these things before anybody else in the congregation and loved to tell people about it.

Busybody Elders are the dopes that let their loudmouth wives in on every piece of dirt hangning around.
For the most part I've know a bunch of Elders who sipmly get frustrated with other Elders and then tell their wives all about it. Then these wives start forming groups and junk all around the crap their husbands are feeding them. Best part is when Elders think that we are getting closer to the end because the congregations are getting more and more divided. What a joke.

The only busybodies are in groups like these. the people here are the busy bodies as you are into everyone's business.

Gris, are you like, 10 years old? Cuz you sound JUST like my 10yo when she's being snotty and needs to sit in the corner in time out... As for the question -- my old elders really weren't that bad as far as busybody-ing. :) The wives, however... ~merfi
