I Am Here Only To Experience

Yep. I can still remember the exact moment and place where this thought sank in for the first time -- even if often forgotten later.

It is the "exit" door which you only find in case of emergency.

But it is also the end of youth -- youth meaning that you are yourself, desire and fear alike, without escape. This can happen very early.

Thanks for all your replies, you beautiful people. ;)

Seems most are agreed that the "my life is not my own" line is erroneous. I'm not quite sure what to do with this. Apparently it was something that I needed to tell myself / hear, at least in that moment. I may decide to change it, as on the surface, it would seem to indicate I am powerless in my own life.

It is definitely something to ponder on. Maybe further meditation will help me realize just what is meant by this phrase. Obviously, if anyone else decides to use this, don't hesitate to change it as you see fit and maybe even post your own. :)

Thanks again all, and I hope this helps in some small way.

I'm sorry for whatever the other beat downs in your life are. Bouncing off the bottom is not fun. They say it doesn't last forever. I hope they are right for everyone's sake, especially yours.

    FMZ:

    Good post!

Read some of the better works on Buddhism, such as The Buddha's Way by H. Saddhatissa and What the Buddha Taught by Walpola Sri Rahula. Also read about the sayings of Ramana Maharshi. You'll be amazed how much your thoughts have in common.

Enjoyed your post.... I felt that way a lot when I was younger. As you get older, it really hits you that life is a continuous circle of valleys and peaks..... that doesn't change, only your ability to handle them does.

Seems most are agreed that the "my life is not my own" line is erroneous

For me, I think the line should read "some parts of my life I have little control" ....

Hang in there... it's just a 'valley'.... you've got a 'hill' to climb soon... (btw, I really liked the thought about the tour-bus.... hehe....)
