What you cite is behavior imputed to God by humans. You also cite theologian's impressions about God's intentions.
I would say this is rather like trusting your mother-in-law or your mother to render a fairly approximate perspective of you to others and expecting someone to get to know you based on the impressions these sources give. I think you'd probably agree that the impression received by others will not be a very reasonable impression of you as a person.
As the Bible explains things, one of the reasons Jesus came at all was so that person of God could be made known. Apparently, Christians shouldn't necessarily think the actions imputed to God in ancient times were necessarily God's doing or typical of God's personality.

Yes of course it would. Are you suggesting I need to try harder to understand god? The gulf is just too wide. I can hold my wife in my arms and communicate through her eyes - at other rarer times we'll have a fierce argument but it's still communication. With God - nothing, not for me anyway.
I have tried to understand god through the Kingdom Hall, the Bible, through prayer and meditation. I've tried to see and comprehend him in 'creation' and Nature. I've tried to understand how others like yourself Ross and Jgnat, Honesty, Greendawn and many others have maintained a relationship with God but I keep returning to the cruelties of existence and the atrocities of history.
I have tried very hard to understand God but I just can't.

Your devotion to your wife is obvious. Regardless of whether you get to know her better or not, you will ever love her. The love is more important that understanding all those strange little things that she does.
Communication at times is a Mars / Venus thing, and yet you continue to love, love, and love, even in the midst of confusion.

The ot god just killed people on whims. The nt god waits until after people are dead, and then fries their souls for eternity, if he is peeved at them for not having faith in his son. Not sure if that is an improvement, but it took many centuries for the change in thinking to come about.
