I found the DC very interesting this year do to my reading of this site. I took note that the danger of the internet was menitioned no less than three times, once with a demonstration showing a brother who found a site by a innocent search of the web on a JW subject to the very last talk, concluding remarks and final "resolution" that consisted of 10 items with number 10 staying away from dangerous sites and chat rooms.

Makes you wonder what the real story is behind that much attention being given to this problem iof theirs.

They actually had a demonstration about using the internet? Did they have a computer and monitor on stage for the demo?

Porn thats what they want you to stay away from....because who knows what you might come across if you were type 'servant' into google

They arent that concerned that you might come across intelligent argument and a different viewpoint nor are they bothered that you might find out the truth about the organisation and its policies on child protection. No porn is the one thing they think is a real danger!

Yes, they actually did show a brother with his lap top and showed him going threw the motions that led him up to the site with questionable apostate material.

Yes, they mentioned Porn no less than three times as well, so I agree Porn is a huge issue as well, but no, I am not mistaken about the concern of the brothers some how getting caught up in the apostate material found on the web. That point was crystal clear and could not have been missed by anyone who was awake at the time.

respectfully disagree, they are concerned about research site, thye know jws are looking into the un, 1914, child abuse stuff, and heaven forbid, they find out about the brother at bethel. just yesterday talked with a siswho knew very well about this, and nearly freaked out when i mentioned "news" . I could hear it in her voice.

Imagine they dont even want to tell their own people about this

it will get around b/c even without the net, some of us will have famly in nyc etc it will get around

This is a tough position for the society. They have to know that brothers and sisters are dropping like "flyies" due to the truth about the "truth" that is easily obtained via the internet.

However, if they get too explicit in their warning it will just make the r&f more curious.

For example, In the internet early days I had no idea that there was porn on the internet until I heard about the warning of porn on the internet from an elder. The first thing I did after the meeting was go home and see how much porn there was freely available.

Darn! Then we aren't doing it right. There should be no question that it is apostate material.

Lumping together hardcore pornography (which is 13% of Internet traffic) and "apostate" pages Hmmmm,Watchtower mealy-mouthing checklist: Common fallacies of logic and rhetoric Argument from adverse consequences (putting pressure on the decision maker by pointing out dire consequences of an "unfavourable" decision).

  • Excluded middle - considering only the two extremes in a range of possibilities (making the "other side" look worse than it really is).
  • Slippery slope - a subset of excluded middle - unwarranted extrapolation of the effects (give an inch and they will take a mile).
  • Confusion of correlation and causation.
  • Straw man - caricaturing (or stereotyping) a position to make it easier to attack..
  • Floating a red herring
  • Excluded middle - considering only the two extremes in a range of possibilities (making the "other side" look worse than it really is). 42 LOGICAL FALLACIES (of the con artist) JWD thread (Oh,i almost forgot # 3 in the 8 marks of a cult is "demand for purity" Watchtower cult leaders appear 'pure' for denouncing pornography while they carry on with their own wickedness)

The truth is the problem starts BEFORE you ever get on the internet. If witnesses were satisfied with their religion they probably wouldn't start searching the net to begin with. I have my doubts most of the witnesses who get onto these sites simply stumble on them by accident. I first had my doubts...then I researched.
