In the 70's we tried the Saturday book study and field service. It pooped out the same as Friday night TMS, THose, meeting just killed any wk end. Even the strong publishers hated the arrangements, not to mention any person with unbelievers.

Just reading this thread chaps my ass. I started all Witness activity in 1951 when I was 7. We had one hour service before Tuesday night book study, and we had a MINIMUM of 2 hours Wednesday night back call night. Then my dad got a study so we went to that after back calls. That kept us out till after 10 pm three nights a week. Thursdays we were usually out till after 11.
All I remember about being a kid was always in trouble in school for NEVER getting homework done and ALWAYS being tired.

I enjoyed Saturday studies at the KH because it one less meeting during the week I had to go to...I was notorious for not going to meeting during the week, too darn tired from work I suppose. The Saturday meetings were great and in the JW eyes it was good because I was going out in service during those times. I could "kill" 1/2 a day. Then I would go home and sleep and then do laundry. Saturdays were always laundry, always.

I haven't attended on a regular basis since the late 90's, however a few years back I know that the congregation I was raised in, discontinued saturday bookstudy so that they could

focus more on the preaching work. I was told that this was recommended(demanded) by the circuit overseer. I don't think it lasted that long now, cuz I'm quite positive they

have reinstated the saturday bookstudy 'arrangement'

I don't think that the book study interferes with preaching on Saturday mornings.

The books study is from 9 to 10, and the field service is from 10 to 12, so they can still get their 2 hours of preaching by finishing a few minutes after noon.

Assuming the book study starts at 9, JH. The one here started at 10 a.m. Somehow people did want to get up that early. Also people around here stop at 11:30; don't want to call on someone just sitting down to lunch, you know.

PS that doesn't stop the ones who don't go out on Saturdays from just arbitarily going to a Tuesday night book study despite the official "assignment." I was in 2 congregations who never posted the list of who were assigned to what book study because so many went to the one they were assigned to.

Is this a new way to get people to go out in the Field Service on Saturdays?

JH, they've been doing this in my area for a few years now, and I do believe it is for this reason, as well as for those who cannot make it out during the week at night.

we have some saturday morning studies.

before ending the study there is already the field service arrangement. So, a lot of presure not to go. you have to say explicetly that you do not want to go this week....

it is done, because of brothers and sisters living far, or have to work many evenings.

I attended a Sat am book study. I used to hate going out in service after the bookstudy. The "peer pressure" is great to get you to go out - even just for a little bit....
