Poor Doggie, I'm sorry but at least you showed the kindness in your heart.

Ringworm is actually caused by a fungus (actually, I guess, fungi). Athlete's foot and jock itch are actually caused 'ringworm' fungi. The fungi are common and actually can be found in soil, but will grow in any warm, moist area. The problem is when the fungus grows quickly and multiplies in areas where you sweat alot (groin or toes) or where there are minor injuries to your skin (scratches, etc). Most of us come into contact quite regularly with the fungus, and healthy people usually fight it off with no effects, but sometimes we come up against a particularly virulent strain.
People and animals whose immune system is not up to par for whatever reason (illness or poor nutrition) will pick it up when somebody else won't.

What can I say?
These things happen. Get well soon!
If it's any consolation - people have been known to get ringworm in hospital over here

Greetings looking_glass,
I'd say you've had better days.

This world is one big eat fest, flea eats cat, fungus eat bacteria, roo-flies eat wallaby. In animal rescue, you pick up a dying kangaroo by the tail and hundreds of roo flies and aother parasites come crawling up your arm hoping you're a new host (a quite unnerving reminder that we are part of the food chain of life
I saw a fox de-bug itself one day and it gave me deep respect for their cunning. I'd heard about this before but witnessing it first hand was fascinating. My mate and I were enjoying smoko by a big billabong when a fox appeared on the opposite bank only about 100 feet away.
We watched the it approach the water with a stick in it's mouth and slowly walk into a dam until its legs were covered. After about ten minutes it had moved under the water till only its head was showing, another five minutes and only the tip of its nose was showing .. the stick was now crowded with fleas . then it ducked under the water, letting go of the stick.

I GOT RINGWORM from the dog.
Someone else has already beaten me to it - but it is the same fungus as causes atheletes foot and thrush - it just demonstrates itself differently depending on the body area.
I got a small circle of blisters on my shin a few years back and it turned out I had ring worm - there's no worm luckily, but it can be itchy as hell. Anyway it went away in a few days with an over the counter Atheletes Foot Cream administered topically.
You did a really nice thing there and Yorkies are notoriously skinny - I lived in a house with 5 a few years back (not the same time as my ring worm experience) and when they had a bath there was nothing left of them!

looking glass,
This reminds me of the old saying: no good deed goes unpunished!
You did the right thing and the fact that you would do it again knowing what happened just goes to show what a wonderful character you have. Applause to you for doing the right thing! I bet most other people would not have given that lady a second look never mind helping her out. You are a wonderful person and we need more people like you in the world.
Feel better soon, Lilly
