The Naivete of American People

For the past 50 years Puerto Rico has been victimized by the small socialist independence faction of the island. A group that has received support from the major Communist groups in Latin America. We have also been witness to the influx of Latin Americans facing civil strife in their own lands and the methods of the guerrillas.

Terrorism in PR began in 1952, if I remember correctly, when a group of puertorricans went into Congress armed and started shooting. The governor was swift in aprehending the master mind who was jailed until he died. And so were the ones that participated. The last two were released old and sick.

Nevertheless, they have managed to incite the socialists which throughout the years have bombed different installations, held up banks including a Wells Fargo truck, held up retaurants full of people, killed 32 Navy men driving to a military base and 7 people in a Chicago club. Most of their activities are confined to bombing communications and public services because theirs is a political movement. The danger of the recent attacks in the USA is religious fanaticism. A very dangerous thing indeed.

When any bomb goes off we know well enough what to do. Business goes on as usual but schools close and mothers and children stay home. The National Guard and the special task force of the police movilizes to the streets immediately. Right now the police has invaded the San Juan airport. Everyone coming in is searched and smelled by German Sheperds, every bag and box is being opened. Federal buildings are fuilly guarded not only because of the recent events but also because the Socialists take any opportunity to resurface. Special task forces are protecting the Arab descendants who are under death threats because these people are by now third generations USA citizens.

Americans are not used to this. The only thing that works is a strong hand to avoid major catastrophes. Be ready to acknowledge that terrorists must be deployed by now all over American soil and I suspect the next target is small town America.

This is not a time to philosophy on exJWs sites about what is going on. I implore you to open your eyes and realize you need to face reality and protect yourselves.

I thought that was camel shit that I smelled on the shoes of the guy in front of me in Walmart yesterday morning.

Then, when I went to lunch at MickiDs, I could have sworn the woman behind me had an AK47 inside her dress.

I was lucky to make it home.

Yes, when I lived in Puerto Rico I noticed EVERYONE was obsessed with arming themselves! [8>]

Yah right. In between the weekly beach festivals and bbq's and the 30-something days of vacation you have per year, it's a wonder you get anything done.

Yah, big deal. You've got some wacky Puerto Ricans who are planning to 'rescue' PR from being a possession of the US.

Yah right. Perhaps if we just pull out altogether, that would be the way to go.

    Then, Puerto Rico would have:

No mail delivery system (that's right boys and girls, the USPS delivers mail in and to PR)

No economy (yup, you use 'our' dollar)

No military presence or protection of any kind, including US Border Patrol to protect your economy from the thousands of Dominicans/Haitians that 'boat on over'

Then, perhaps those radical Puerto Ricans would be happy, because they'd have their 'country' back. And PR would become almost overnight just another Latin American country. Widespread corruption at the highest levels of the governement.

You forget, Alma, we have experience with our own version of home grown terrorists like Timothy McVeigh.

Americans will NEVER be willing to live in a semi police state, even one as 'mild' as the Black Watch of Puerto Rico. We value our freedom too much. And we value YOURS too. And everyone else's, which is why we sometimes get involved in political issues that we'd rather not.

No thanks, no guns in my house. I've got the
    US Marine Corps
    US NATIONAL GUARD
    USM (US Marshals)
    ATF (Alchohol Tobacco Firearms)
    DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency)
    USBP (US Border Patrol)
    US Army
    US ARMY RESERVES
    FBI
    CIA
    US NAVY/AIR FORCE
    CHP (California Hwy Patrol)
    FCS (Fresno County Sheriffs)
    FPD (Fresno Police Department)

to protect me. And yeah, sometimes they can be bumbling idiots. But MY GOD I wouldn't wanna be on the receiving end of their anger.

Sadly that is not true. Americans have been giving up their freedom piece by piece over the decades. Civil liberties have been eroded in ways most Americans aren't even aware of. This tragedy will allow those who want even more control over the American people the excuse they need to clamp down even more on civil liberties. Freedom will begin to disappear at a more rapid pace. And you know what most Americans will do as their rights are trampled upon?

    Cheer.

Not to mention the fact that you pissed me off by calling American People 'Naive.'

    Please, do tell.

I've been all over the world, and I'm not aware of EVEN one liberty I don't have.

Including burning the flag of this great nation if I so choose to do, arming myself with my first Amendment rights.

PLEASE tell me which freedoms have been taken from me, Seeker.

    Lisa,

How would you feel if every phone conversation you made was tapped without a warrant? Probably not very good. Yet that is what just happened to email. Did you read about it? If not, you'll see what I mean about most Americans not being aware of their rights eroding.

    Seeker,

The FBI serving search warrants on ISPs to determine email account setups is in no way an erosion of my civil liberty!

I *STILL* have the right to express myself via email or even construct a hate site on the Internet if I so choose. I can pick up my phone right now and tell my best friend "I'm SO GLAD we got bombed yesterday! We deserved it for the rotten way we treat Arabs!"

And you know what would happen to me?

    NOT a goddamn thing.

If I so choose, I can go place a sign on my front lawn that says "ARABS and SAND NIGGERS go home."

I can call a Mosque and threaten to blow them up.

    Empty talk, Seeker, I'm surprised.

What can't I do because I've lost my human and civil rights?

    Lisa

Thank God for the USA and the example of freedom it continues to set worldwide.

You can do all those things, Lisa, but your life would not remain the same. It's not empty talk.

Some background information in general, stuff you didn't hear about: http://mediafilter.org/caq/Caq53.court.html

Here's what happened this week, so that your emails (and mine) can be filtered: http://www.wired.com/news/politics/0,1283,46747,00.html

Maybe we will be lucky and the FBI will stop the monitoring after they get the information they need. Or maybe they won't willingly give up their extra power. Either way, you weren't aware of this, I'll bet. But now that you are, I'll also bet that you (and most Americans) are cheering their efforts. After all, any price is worth paying for security. That's how people feel in a crisis, and why governments uses crises to grab extra power for themselves. Stay tuned, there's lots more to come in the weeks and months ahead.

Go ahead, exercise your First Amendment rights all you want. But if you say the wrong things, you may find yourself on a list.
