I gave away a lot of cloths to the charities or direct to poor families.

Uzzah, wow! Just today????? Is your real name Clark Kent????
Yes, I believe it is.
Uzzah, you're definitely a hero in my book for the things that you do every day and all you've done in the past! (I believe that karma is growing up in an account for you...somewhere! :)
Any small charity things I have done pale in comparison.
But I try to do what I can to brighten the lives of kids stuck in hospitals with serious illnesses. Can't tell more at risk of identifying myself. But I do all I can, for all I can. Even tiny things add up I believe :)

I like that Fleur-------I do all I can for all I can! Great motto!

Fleur is just being modest. The amount of work she has done to support kids is AMAZING!
I have admired her leadership in her charitable activities despite occasional lack of support from others she just keeps on keeping on! This while raising a family and battling her own challenges.
She's one of my heros!

I am glad this isn't a self-promotion thread, but really an encouraging and challenging thread to everyone. There is a lot of untapped energy around. Love can unleash it.
Uzzah, wow. What a day!! And fleur, I have read only snippets, but my hat's off to you, too. (And sparkplug is another gal who has impressed me greatly with her dedication to charity, though she has not posted on this thread...)
One thing we have done for years is sponsor children thru Christian Childrens Fund. We currently sponsor two. A third "child" in India we used to sponsor thru the organization we now pay for university tuition. He's brilliant!! He's was accepted into a selective aeronautical engineering program. We would be utter fools to not help him!!!!!
My husband has taken trips to do medical work in remote areas abroad. He has a huge heart--that's why I love him.
BTW, anewme, I wanted to let you know that I was happy to see you back posting again (an overdue comment, I know). Good threads like this one, and your encouragement to everyone, are like balm.

I volunteer at the local soup kitchen twice per month. After hurricane Katrina, I directly gave an acquaintance money because she was caring for her displaced family members who became separated during the evacuation. Because I did that in a group setting, everyone had to pony up!
I might add that as far as appearances go, I am still a Witness in good standing.

Good for you Angelica!!!!!
Actually going and helping in a disaster is going way beyond the norm in my opinion!
Many give of their surplus, but few from their want.
I do not even stop to think if there is a reward in all of this. I truly feel there is no other way to live. Jesus said so many beautiful things which we love him for like "There is more happiness in giving than receiving"
Jesus and Buddha both saw the suffering in the world and it troubled them deeply.
Instead of worrying and wishing and complaining about our world we can be proactive in making it a little more loving, a little more caring, a little bit happier place to live. -
Good Girl or Bad Girl?
I've been wanting to volunteer. I just signed up to work the hotline at the local rape crisis center. I start training this week.
My sister has donated her hair for children with cancer before and is growing it out to donate again (this time she is donating it to a group that is specifically for women with cancer). She also volunteers at the rape crisis center.
I plan to do more. I donate my clothes and things to Goodwill rather than selling them. I have given money or food to homeless people when I have it. (I once gave a slimfast bar to a man begging on the street. He gave me a weird look. But I didn't have any money on me!)
Thanks for this thread, it's good to read what others are doing and get ideas of what I can do.

I have volunteered with NW Aids Foundation, I give, when able, to charity, try to organize a food drive about once a year on a non-holiday for the food bank, both my dogs are adopted from the shelter, and if I see someone in need and its within my power I try to help. Once at an outside (non-heated) espresso stand I gave the server my leather gloves. She was running from the window to the people waiting in their cars and it was about 20 degrees outside.
Do I do enough. No. Wish like hell I could do way more.
Not the first time I thought the folks on JWD were awesome! I'm proud as hell of ya'all.
