DVD-R media works in DVD-R Drives. DVD+R media is for DVD+R drives.
Check the media package agains your drive. The format might be printed on the front of the drive.

I think more people should enroll in computer courses. In my workplace you'd be surprised how many people, who've been using computers for 10+ years, don't know the difference between a thingy and a doohicky. It's very sad.
