They said that they dont have them in Madison because too many people left the convention site and they weren't suppose to. Plus they wanted a change (I think). I dont know... all I do know is that I am ready to go crazy. But the one thing I do question (trust me I still don't believe its the "truth") is how this organization can get everyone to do the same thing worldwide, you know? Oh and I got yelled at for not being ready to get married into the damn religion. Screw this! I'm not getting married at 21 and having a baby at 22, that is not how I am. Sorry, I dont want to marry young, I want to get to know the person first and I want to live with them first.

Yeah. I agree. I wouldn't get married young if I had to do it all over again. I was married at 18 and first baby at 19. Though this was in the ' 60s.

It's good that you're are furthering your education. You'll never regret it.

Take care and continue to make wise decisions.

You wrote: "Family members have it harder than the ones who are disfellowshipped."My Witness relatives have it much harder than me and my family. We worked hard for the last 30 years and have a retirement plan funded. We have leisure time and we enjoy it. We don't have ANY night meetings and we NEVER go door to door with anything.
We celebrate anything we want, and we associate with anybody we want. We never fear the doorbell or the phone.
Witnesses have it much harder than we do. I think it's rather foolish of the Society to remind them.

For the non-locals, it's whyamihere's (brooke's) kind of street. has all the bars are. If any apostates ever wander into Madison, I'll gladly give a tour. but seriously, I doubt the university gave the WT the sweetheart deal they are likely getting from rockford to have the convention there. -silent

Yeah, I am kinda sad... I'm from Madison, and we got spoiled with it there, so its a hassle driving every day because my mother is so anal about our dog so we can't stay in a hotel. Next year, if I go, I'm renting my own hotel and I'm going to have an apostafest party during the night to keep all the other witnesses up.

SW, are you sure you went to the conventions in Madison?

it's about 3 blocks from the Kohl center to State Street!

The conventions have always been at the Coliseum, now known as the Alliant Center.

The only thing near the Coliseum are 3 hotels, which JWs were forbidden to stay at but did anyway.

State Street is 3 miles away.

when did the DC get moved to Rockford? When I went it was at Cicero at the Racetrack. Where in the morning you would get the smell of fresh wet horse! I know it was then at Comiskey (now the Cell) but I think that was just once. I think when I was a kid we went once to WI, but I cannot remember where, I just remember it was air conditioned and we LOVED it because the Racetrack was not air conditioned other than the box seat areas which would always be taken by the "special" people because their family members would get their early and put all their bibles and magz down on the seats.

LG, that was the Coliseum (now known as the Alliant Center) that you went to. I think it was last year they moved the conventions from Madison to Rockford. One is held in Green Bay as well. The true reason lies in the dropping numbers attending (could no longer support 2 rather than 3 conventions by the time we left). The WTS could no longer afford the Coliseum. The Metro Centre in Rockford is rundown and is much cheaper. But the hotels cannot provide enough quality rooms. The parking stinks too. The Metro Centre plans on remodeling; will the WTS be able to stay after that.

Yes, the Madison people are complaining about the drive and the bad hotels. I heard that some people stayed an hour's drive away and had critters in their room. Others drive round trip every day and others take a bus. I bet some go to Green Bay although they are not assigned.

Never went to any conventions in WI; I thought the WT listed the Kohl Center for a few years, but I could be wrong.

anyhow, anyone catch the news about the flooding in Madison. My apartment building was the one on the news... :-). 1st two floors of the building destroyed (literally -- all the interior walls are gone) and my car was destroyed too.

The Kohl Center is a new facility without very little attached parking. Living on UW-Madison campus, you must know that. Also, if the WTS can no longer afford the Coliseum (Alliant Center), they definitely can't afford the Kohl Center.

The DC switched from the Alliant Center to Rockford in 2004. Did you start going to UW-Madison after 2003?
