Is the WTS stopping Scripture classes globally, or just Australia?

I think ozziepost is right on the mark here. For the last few years in Australia, any person working with children in any capacity must possess a 'Blue Card' after completing a 'Working with Children' check. While there are plenty of Witnesses who could get such accreditation, there's most likely just not enough who could be bothered.

The Dept Ed did mention that basic security checks were necessary, but did not specify how that was done. I used to take scripture classes about 15 years ago and was never instructed how to do it and did not have any checks done on me. Looking back it was strange that a 20 year old man was allowed to take a class with a couple of JW children unmonitored.

What Barry says is right, there is often the couple of lone JW children floating around with nothing to do while all the other churches have classes organized. I used to feel quite embarrassed heading off to the library with just my sister in one of the schools I was in.

Very good point Ozzie. There are churches (and other organizations like the hospital,) around here that offer classes geared toward the proper handling of abuse allegations. Anyone who works in a capacity that involves children can take them, regardless of denomination.

I've never known a single JW to attend one, unless they work for the school district.
