I had a great social life when I was a JW and some lovely friends, none of whom have spoken one word to me since I was df'd.
I still miss them though.
What Did You LOVE About Being a Jehovah's Witness?

Even though I never quite fit in, I loved being a welcome part of family gatherings and not being looked at with eyes full of pain and sorrow. Back then I was still more of a black sheep than a goat, because of my solitary nature and tendency toward independent thinking.
I loved travelling with my mom and meeting new "friends."
I loved the horrid dramas, except for the modern-day ones.
I loved the really old books and mags from the 20's, 30s, 40s, 50s, piled up in my grandparent's chimney-room.
I loved being doted on by elderly brothers and sisters.
But for everything I loved, there are probably 10 things I didn't love, that caused me great distress.

Worldly Andre,
I did like the pudding, the frozen orange juice, the danishes (cheese and apple) and the coffee (better than Starbucks but then I helped make it).
But when the stopped the food arrangement I discovered the pudding in the store as well as the danishes, and I still make better coffee than Starbucks.
Blondie (missing nothing about the WTS illusion)

I loved being able to get out of going to a meeting by offering to stay home & 'take care of Dad' (the ONLY positive thing about his illness..). Feeding him, changing him, giving him medications, etc., was not exactly FUN, but far preferable to another boring, guilt-inducing evening at the KH..
I missed many meetings in his last year...all with the full knowledge & understanding of the congregation

Interesting responses. No one seems to be missing in any way the "spiritual food" that we were told was so good for us and nourishing. That is very revealing.
Only one person mentioned the territory she had to preach in. I hated having to Witness around here in small towns where I knew a lot of people.
And this may be a shocker, but I loved the bean burrito at the assemblies and conventions - which was also a shocker to JWs back then. They even stripped that simple pleasure away from me. Probably a subtle factor in my leaving. If the burritos had stayed, I might still be knocking on doors!

You know? I didn't love anything about being a jw. I did/do love my jw family but then would have been a constant with or wothout the doctrine.
