Still in one piece but the wheelchair isn't

What a day. I was out gallavanting around - buying one thing here another there and finally heading home.

The chair hit a bump and the front wheel broke off sending me flying with the chair landing on top of me. Personally I think it was a temper tantrum designed to let me know they were tired and wanted to ride me for a while.

I had just passed a man sitting on a bench waiting for the bus and he rushed right over to help. Two other nice fellows appeared one even stopping his car. The next thing two female paramedics were there - all in the space of two minutes. The driver samaritan left once he saw I had plently of help. The fellows lifted the chair off me and slowly I checked to see if anything was broken. My foot had gotten twisted under the chair when I went down.

The paramedics said they were just turning the corner and thought something didn't quite look right - a woman on the ground and a wheelchair on top of her so they decided to stop without having to be called.

I called the people I got the chair from and they sent someone over to pick it up immediately - fabulous service from them.

The the paramedics picked me up off the ground and then into the ambulance - first time ever for me. Super service from everyone.

But you know how hospitals are - wait wait wait. Had xrays taken - nothing broken - gave me a couple of T3s for pain which is wearing off right about now.

I will probably be black and blue down the right side of my body but I will be OK otherwise - didn't even bang my head going down.

Once it was all over Paratranspo that I use in the winter told me they could not get me home because my account was not active. Let's just forget I am calling from the emergency room after being tossed from my chair and now being chairless. Forget too that I can't put any weight on my foot after having it crunched under a 200 lb chair. Even though they were dropping another person who was there and lives within blocks of my place they wouldn't help.

The nurses called disability and they arranged a taxi to bring me home. Some people in the building helped me up to my apartment.

Sometimes gov't services suck. But all the other wonderful people who stopped to offer help were great. Even the nurses, doctors, xray technician - all fabulous.

    Wasn't that a new chair?

Yup a brand new top of the line chair. There really wasn't anything on the sidewalk to have broken it like that.

    Lady Lee,

I feel horrible that you had that happen to you. Hope you are not too sore tonight. Glad you are not too seriously hurt but it sucks to fall like that, and I am sure you are hurting.

I am glad though that so many good people came to your aide. Its not good when we go thru something traumatic like that but it is always good to see people working together and the good side of humanity, isn't it?

I will keep you in my thoughts, please feel better soon, Lilly

Sorry, but that kind of made me laugh...

I'm glad you're ok.... so, are you getting a new chair soon, or at least a temporary one until the new one comes?

I'm glad you're in one piece and not seriously injuried. Your experience reminds me of one of the shows I saw on Seinfeld. If it weren't so serious it'd be funny.

Oh my goodness! I'm so glad you're mostly ok and there were so many people so quick to help Not happy with those who wouldn't help though

I wish you a speedy recoveryand a new chair that won't ever do that again!

    Ouch!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry to hear about the accident LL. I am glad that help was so close and the service was good. I sure do know about emergency rooms after sitting in a few in my time. I won't say anything about the tranporters you mentioned since it might result in a gratuitous charge of my being a hard-core conservative nutcase by some other reader. But believe me, I sympathise with you on that one. Thank God, luck, or whatever for the Nurse who arrainged the alternate ride. Hang in there and don't let the black and blue stuff throw you for too much of a loop

Are they going to fix this one or do you get new wheels?

Did they give you a breathalyzer test?

I read the subject line and was concerned that a car had collided with you.

Glad to hear nothing was broken and you are home safe and relatively sound!
