What a day. I was out gallavanting around - buying one thing here another there and finally heading home.
The chair hit a bump and the front wheel broke off sending me flying with the chair landing on top of me. Personally I think it was a temper tantrum designed to let me know they were tired and wanted to ride me for a while.
I had just passed a man sitting on a bench waiting for the bus and he rushed right over to help. Two other nice fellows appeared one even stopping his car. The next thing two female paramedics were there - all in the space of two minutes. The driver samaritan left once he saw I had plently of help. The fellows lifted the chair off me and slowly I checked to see if anything was broken. My foot had gotten twisted under the chair when I went down.
The paramedics said they were just turning the corner and thought something didn't quite look right - a woman on the ground and a wheelchair on top of her so they decided to stop without having to be called.
I called the people I got the chair from and they sent someone over to pick it up immediately - fabulous service from them.
The the paramedics picked me up off the ground and then into the ambulance - first time ever for me. Super service from everyone.
But you know how hospitals are - wait wait wait. Had xrays taken - nothing broken - gave me a couple of T3s for pain which is wearing off right about now.
I will probably be black and blue down the right side of my body but I will be OK otherwise - didn't even bang my head going down.
Once it was all over Paratranspo that I use in the winter told me they could not get me home because my account was not active. Let's just forget I am calling from the emergency room after being tossed from my chair and now being chairless. Forget too that I can't put any weight on my foot after having it crunched under a 200 lb chair. Even though they were dropping another person who was there and lives within blocks of my place they wouldn't help.
The nurses called disability and they arranged a taxi to bring me home. Some people in the building helped me up to my apartment.
Sometimes gov't services suck. But all the other wonderful people who stopped to offer help were great. Even the nurses, doctors, xray technician - all fabulous.
