    Zico,

I wish you the best in achieving your dreams and in gaining the support of your loved ones after managing the adjustment period. (You can do it!)

Generally, if you are as respectful and loving to yourself, your dream,
and to them as you can be, you will find support where you might least expect and when you need it most.

Just don't expect perfection from yourself or them!

You need to start making baby steps to making a network of REAL friends who are not JW.

Take a night class, go for coffee after. Join a swim club, go to a swimmeet. Cycling (you are getting real unfit) athletics, any hobby really where you will meet REAL people. You will discover they are not all the spawn of Satan.

I f you have not built a support network before you find the Borg intolerable, then when you do snap and say "ENOUGH!" the WTBTS has practised its skills in driving you to a nervous breakdown or suicide.

Find out about the life out there. When you are qualified as an elactrician, emigrate - Canada is snapping them up.

Above all make friends who don't care about your religion. Inform yourself so the terror tactics don't work any more.

Look at sites that refute WTBTS crap like www.talkorigins.org or www.biblicalnonsense. Look at www.youtube.com or www.silentlambs.org all these will help you get a backbone to resist the fear and blackmail of a cult that has been getting it wrong and correcting themselves constantly for the last 130 years.

Just in case anyone is interested, I thought I'd post an update on my progress here. I spoke to my parents, and gave them the reasons suggested here (Tell them I might want a family one day, and that I need to plan for the future in case there was a reason I couldn't pioneer. I also said that I'd go back to pioneering if I am in a position too once I am qualified, which was, of course, not true!) After much discussion they accepted my decision.

I then spoke to my uncle who is willing to take me on full time and train me, as he was short on staff anyway. So, starting the next service year (September) I will be working full time and going to night classes. :)

The next step is to find a company to work for that is not run by a Witness, and then to leave home, so I can begin the fade with a lot less trouble.

I still know it's going to be a difficult time, but I'm sure it's worth the effort.

Thanks for all your suggestions. :)

    Bingo Zico! Perfect plan!

Now you have to learn how to double talk answers to the hard and probing questions that will inevitably come. :)

    Good job!

Excellent start, Zirco. You're out of the pioneering and into classes and full-time work. Good job! You'll make your way to the life you want to have. Just take it one step at a time. I'm so excited for you.
