    Thanks for your comments--I love you guys! You all understand what we have overcome as JWs and I feel our pride in America comes from a place deep inside that was always there, but were told was wrong. As a child, teenager and young adult not saluting the flag, I felt SO guilty. Here I was getting all of the benefits from this great country, but I can't show my respect???? You all understand how good it feels now.

    I said the same thing to my husband this morning. It may be a trivial thing in the face of what is happening, but I am so glad to be able to show my patriotism.

    Today at noon here at work there were at least 100 of us that met under the American flag, shared a few encouraging thoughts, said a prayer and had a moment of silence. It was a moment that I will always remember and it stirs my convictions to fight against any that would try and steal my freedom, wheather that be another country or a cult.
    Obviously Frightmare doesn't know what it means to be an American.

    Poor Frightmare--doesn't know anything about patriotism.

    I have my flag out on the flagpole on the front lawn. It is a small gesture but it makes a statement. Most Americans are proud of this country and rightly so. This is the land of freedom. We are so free that people like Frightmare are allowed to make assinine statements without fear of retribution. Of course we could offer to send such folks on an all expense paid trip to Afghanistan, Iraq or Pakistan and then see how they feel about America and flying her colors.

    Proud to be an American--wouldn't live anywhere else.

    Jackasses like you are the ones with no "acuity". I don't consider myself a superpatriot, but I am flying the flag as a show of solidarity and support, for those who died, those still to be found, and the thousands of families who are without their loved ones. It also symbolizes the spirit of America, and what makes us great - our ability to pull together under the most extreme circumstances. Perhaps if you were involved in some way, you wouldn't be showing us how ignorant and insensitive you are.

    Thanks for those kind words. I feel just like the majority on this thread. I wear a flag lapel pin everyday now. It may not seem like much to a non-jw, but since I have left, there have been several occasions at sporting events, where I could not hold back the tears, when singing along with the crowd, our national anthem, and reciting loud and clear 'the pledge of allegence'.

    After years of playing the jw mantra game, 'its an idol' it 'represents a false god'...bah humbug...I know it is not an idol or a false god to me..it simply means I can now give honor and respect, to the country that imo is as deserving or more so, than any on the face of the earth.
