To many times the bible is fired upon and put in negative light due to the contents of it. However I would like to post some ENCOURAGING Scriptures from that book.

    1) For those experiencing trials because of illness. Revelations 21:4-5

    2) For those who are hard pressed by economic problems. Psalms 72:8,16---Matthew 6:33

    3) For individuals who are discouraged due to their own shortcomings. Psalms 34:18, Psalms 103:13-14, 2Peter 3:9,15

Those are just a few to mention. What are your thoughts?

I do think that the bible has some practical and good advice - even if I don;t believe in god. However I dont have a bible - maybe you could say or quote the bits from those scriptures you think are encouraging and I might be able to comment after some thought.

The Bible, the Quran, the Book of Mormon, etc.: just books. There's absolutely no proof any of them has been inspired by an almighty god (there's no such thing as an almighty god - and there are proofs for this allegation).

Ok crumpet the one in Rev. 21:4-5 is one of my favorites because ALL humanity is touched by illness. I know the responce from most people when they read this scripture is. "Why doesnt He do something about it now?" That being said it is still encouraging to know that God will wipe out EVERY tear from our eyes and death will be no more! Neither will morning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things will pass away..........write because these things are faithful and true.

    "Bad associations spoil useful habits."

I used to hate that scripture when I was a JW. It wasn't until I left the watchtower organization that I realized the truthfulness of it. I have developed many useful habits now that I'm no longer under watchtower influence.

Interesting text, agape. Could you elaborate on "the former things"?

ozzie I would suppose the former things that humans experience BEFORE God wiped it all away

For those experiencing trials because of illness. Revelations 21:4-5

I haven't got a bible either, though I can look passages up on gateway look up, if I'm inclined. Doesn't that verse say something about death will be no more? I assume it refers to the new system, which you maybe still believe in agapa, but I don't, so that scripture wouldn't comfort me in any way.

Actually, I would agree that the bible does contain some principles, but I feel most of them are common sense anyway. For example, I am not a thief, but that isn't because the bible says it's wrong - I wasn't a thief long before I'd ever read the bible, nor do I kill people, I've never had murderous thoughts towards anyone, not with any possibility of carrying them out anyway (though I might have disobeyed my parents on the odd occasion).

I'm not paricularly anti - bible, any more than I'm anti - koran or anti - book of mormon, I just don't see how I would benefit from reading any of those books.
