Okay.
Last night my wife and I saw this one debated on TV. She was incensed and didn't accept the opinion of one of the debators that Justice was served in the sense that the offenders were getting the full penatly of the law as Juvenile offenders, it was just that the carrying-out of the sentence was delayed because the judge didn't their lives totally ruined by what they did.
I offered to her that there is a pretty good reason why justice is served in this case, though I doubt the judge really considered it. If either of these boys has a serious shot at a professional football career, something that did apear to be on the judge's mind, then his ability to pay out a substancial settlement and take care of the surviving victim goe way up if he gets the scholarship! The smart thing for the families to do would be to sue the perpetrators and get a judgement. Then, if or when one or both sign professional contracts move in court for the enforcement of the judgements. That way justice really gets served to its fullest!

....or maybe it was just a way of guaranteeing of having a winning season for the school? After all, we are not looking at the big picture here. Boys will be boys, after all, and no one got killed, did they?

It was more than likely what was on the judge's mind along with "why ruin their lives over a prank?" I still stand by what I said about how justice would best be served though. Although My experience with the system is that those with a genuine reason like that for collecting on a suit don't get diddly more often than not.

CaptainSchimdeo:
Maybe none of the boys that were victims did get killed. But one of the victims suffered serious injuries, countless surgeries, and still has to undergo another surgery and rehabilitation, etc.
These boys should have been kicked of the football team for conduct unbecoming a student and athelite, and the judge should have imposed their sentences immediately.
You reap what you sow and they should have not been given a chance to continue to play football again for the season.

I don't agree with that ruling. Screw American football, make 'em do the time ASAP. Pranks are funny until someone gets hurt and possessions need to be repaired.
