Peoples jobs are their own business, it doesn't bother me. Someone has to clean windows, someone has to clean houses e.t.c

Having actually had no money myself, there was a time we lived in a homeless accomdation - its just something i don't think about. I hope i wasnt one of the people who made a comment to offend you, i don't remember doing it.

but they have chosen to be witnesses and they are dong hard honest work, I don’t see why some are so set on ridiculing them.

    Not, never have been, etc.

I ridicule nobody because of their job.

Fortunately, I'm retired now and don't have to work. When I did, I had a fairly senior position. After that, I had a lot of fun doing 'manual' work moving furniture. In a couple of months, I may look for a job (just to prevent boredom) as a waiter or something. Society is wrong to classify people by the job they choose to do. If I was in the UK, I wouldn't mind a part-time job collecting supermarket trolleys.

But I still come back to this: in an organisation which is as controlling of every aspect of life as WTBTS is, it is fair to question the qualifications, experience and training of those who would seek to intervene in areas which in 'real life' are properly regarded as being reserved for 'professionals'.

    Just my thoughts.

secular education and pick a career that they enjoyed

whose to say they don't enjoy their jobs?

    Me.

I was an intelligent young person who was actively discouraged from staying on in education beyond 16. So instead I became a window cleaner and a house cleaner, and poineered.

I was utterly miserable and unfulfilled. I used to have dreams that I was going to college with my school friends. Then id wake up and clean some more bloody windows.

Dont get me wrong, its a great job too, physical, outdoors, own hours etc. But if you are doing it because its the only option because you have been prevented from getting a proper education, its just awful. It should be a choice. But for most JW's its not, its their only option.

THE ORG. HAS DECIDED LONG AGO TO DISCOURAGE EDUCATION, THEIR THEORY, KEEP EVERYONE UN-EDUCATED, THEN IT IS HARDER TO FIGURE THE GB OUT.

THE CATHOLIC CHURCH HAS IT DOWN PAT TOO, THEY GET BY MORE WITH THE THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES , THE UN-EDUCATED IS NOT NECESSARILY DUMB, THEY SIMPLY DON'T HAVE THE EDUCATED TOOLS TO SEE THROUGH THE SOPHISTICATED RELIGIONS OR CULTS.

As a former JW and janitor, I have no problem with people taking shots at them about it. But acting like it is some sort of honor to be uneducated sickens me.

Never did the window washing thing, but I know of an Elder and former MS who was.

    Honest Criticizim or Personal Attacks?

'Holier Than Thou' people living a minimalist life being exposed and criticized is to be expected. The problem I have is that what normal people go into this line of work is as a result of being manipulated by the WTS who then holds them up as Positive Examples and Heros!

I knew a brother who had a cleaning business and he made a good living. He had a condo at the beach and a nice boat that we went fishing in. He made more money than I did. He was killed in a car accident several years ago.

    Lola,

For most of my life, I have been one of these hard working types that people would look down on. You are right, nothing wrong with honest work and people should not be quick to judge others for how they make there living, so long as it is honest as you mentioned. However, what most posters here have issue is, many of us would of like to have had the opportunity to do more with our professional life if it hadn't been so discouraged by the Society. Consequently, you have an organization full of uneducated people who prance around giving advice to others and fostering the myth that education has no importance. These Elders who value education so little will pay hard earned dollars to an Accountant to help set up there little business, go see a lawyer if ever they get sued. Rush to see a Dr. everytime something hurts or doesn't seem right with their health. They also expect those professionals who they do deal with to be at the top of their game, this only comes with hard work and education which does not end once a degree is obtained. This whole thought proces of the Society is very hypocritical and has cause many to feel like they have missed out; hence the anger and sarcasm you detect.

It's very common for many Hohos to work for themselves, and for very good reason. I know that there is a large percentage of them that do not report all their income, or do not have lawfully required licenses or equipment for the work they do. For instance, in AZ there are several of their men, MS and Elder included, who do air conditioning service. They not only do not operate as legal business entities, and therefore do not pay accurate income tax or collect sales tax for parts and equipment sold, but several blow off refrigerant instead of reclaiming it. Big, big fines for that.

One of my sisters is going through a shitty divorce from her abusive Hoho MS husband, he's owned a landscaping biz for 29 years. She has never held a job and is now faced with supporting herself and was hoping for a decent amount of 'spousal support'. When his past tax records were presented to the judge, they showed he has never reported any more than $800 average per month income--all while raising 5 children, owning a nice home on 2 acres, collecting western art and antiques and owning horses.

It's always been an inside joke, 'how je---ah provides for us', how they (myself included, I was raised with the 'suck the milk of the nations' mentality) could just manipulate the facts and the $$$. When really, if they were to act within the law where these businesses are concerned, they'd have far less spendable income.

At any rate, living off piece-work is rough and that pleases their evil 'society', and it reinforces the martyr thing. Afterall, 'the son of god had no where to lay down his pointy little head', he only had that nifty outer garment.

I completely identify with the window-washer/janitor joke. I know a brother, an MS, who works for himself as a janitor. Nice guy. A bit distracted though. No one I'd go to for advice, if he became an elder, which I don't see happening.
