I used to think I had many REAL friends in the congregation.... but the friends that are left, are either family, or have also left the cult! Not a huge loss, when I think about it.

I thought that I had a lot - until my wife's health failed.

Then, our "friends" took great pleasure in kicking us while we were down.

(For me, that is when my doubts about the whole business of the "Truth" began. Particularly as my "worldly" father had warned me at the outset that "if you ever get into trouble, it will only be this family who helps you out - nobody else." Oh boy ---- was he correct! )

Throughout all that, maybe two remained friends. One of these still to this day remains friendly - within the constraints of Watchtower Society procedure.

Years ago, I thought I had a lot of friends. Then I matured and found I really have no true friends but my wife, my son my brother and sister. Thats pretty much the way I want it. I do have a world of aquaintences and I try to treat everyone as I would like to be treated.

I'm not sure. The one good friend I have now might shun me if I left the JWs. He shuns very good friends of his like a good dub. So I guess I have zero real friends in the truth.

Real friends are those who stick by your side through thick and thin; their friendship is not conditional. Based on this, I would have to say there is not one "real" friend in the entire organization...and I am referring to the non-questioning we-shun-because-we're-told-to types.
