Does anyone really have a chaperone when out with the opposite sex?

Actually, the issue of chaperones was not a big issue until a 1961 WT. Teenagers under 18 were allowed to date unchaperoned which resulted in

several unwed mothers and many JCs

Thus several articles came out on the dangers of "petting" and "necking" (toying with immorality) and the need for chaperones and parents (especially JW fathers) were told their privileges were in danger if they allowed underage children (under 18) to date. There were several demonstrations at the assemblies and conventions, a vivid one at the circuit assembly in the late 60's.

We were always supposed to have chaperones but sometimes it just wouldn't work out (ooops!) Like when I had to drive my girlfriend home late at night and my sleeping parents didn't want to bother. Our way of getting around the chaperone is we would call her parents when we left and they would guesstimate how long it should take us. We always got there on time but, of course, hands would wander along the way.

Only once in my nearly 30 years in the truth have I known a couple always have a chaperone - it was so rare it was commented on in the wedding talk

I had worldly girlfriends all through high school, in fact I use to sneak out of the house through my bedroom window or out the side garage door. and more than once sneaked girlfriends in my house while my parents were at meetings. One time I was on a date but didn't come home till 5am we were at the beach, and my dad was waiting up for me, I really go the shit kicked out of me that day. Most of the time I never got caught, and never had a chaparone

In our Congregation they insist on chaperones. Brothers and sisters who have been spotted without them have been spoken to by elders. It's a very frustrating rule.

And it has NO scriptural backing.

We had a chaperone from time to time. You know so we wouldn't fall into temptation. Guess what! It didn't work. If two people want to play patti-cakes, a chaperone won't stop them.

I dunno where you guys came from. But in my family chaperones were manditory.

My JW fiance and I managed to sneak off alone a few times but we only kissed.

My sister was never alone with her fiance, and when they kissed at the wedding it was their first kiss ever.

I guess she was better then me and never snuck off.

I never had too, my parents never made me. But I know alot of people that really weren't alone until they were married. Is that why they look so miserable a year later??? They found out they hated each other after all?? I know this one older really self righteous annoying type divorcee who had a date for the first time in like 10 years or something and he met her (they couldn't drive together becuase then they would be alone) at the Skate Plaza, which no one over the age of 14 goes too. The next date he met her at the movies to watch Shrek. I think its so funny like they were 15 years old. And no dinner either, that was too intimate, just Skateing and Shrek. Real charmers those JW men!
