hi tijkmo - I went to Glasgow last year. Nice shops in fact second best in the country to London (and that's a known fact, sorry Manchester), but rest of Glasgow what a dump with the exception of my friends place at Bearsden.
Couldn't wait to get out of the City to explore the wonderful scenery on the way to the Isle of Skye.

Hey SAB,
Yes Dansk, you lot make the stuff, we sell it for a lovely profit. We don't want to get our hands dirty - we just want to make the money.
Ain't that the truth!
And by the way, England culturally DOES end at Watford Gap - where are all the best theaters, museums, architecture, art galleries and restaurants? Oh, they all happen to be in London.
Cobblers! It's a fact since Manchester underwent a huge change since the IRA bombing it has incorporated many new places of interest as well as keeping our illustrious restaurants and theaters AND being modern, we have had time to expand and get things right, unlike London which is restricted by old planning. We also had a magnificent Commonwealth Games and benefitted from the resulting spin-offs, etc. And don't forget, we have some of the most magnificent scenery up here, with easy access to the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.
And your reference to football, I'm an Arsenal fan so yes, I'm hurting this morning but haven't you heard of Chelsea?
Actually, I didn't know whether to cheer or cry when Arsenal lost as I support Man Utd. Chelsea? Only got where they are through a Russian billionaire. The title's ours this season. Are you coming to the Aposta Curry? You'll receive a warm and hearty Mancunian welcome - unlike the cold southern handshake. Ian

And another thing SAB:

Didn't you do geography at school? Oh no, sorry, you're a southerner!
Well, the fact is, for your information Glasgow is in Scotland - so how can it have second best shops in the country? Sheesh!

I want to go to London, lots of amazing little goth shops there that sell things that are expensive to import and you can't get in north america. My boyfriend was in camden town the last time he was there. He said it was weird seeing his parents look like the ones out of place among the other gothic children hehe. Role reversal how's it feel. I hope to do some travelling some day with him and we plan to go to London.

I want to go to London
What the heck for? Typical! All most foreigners know about England is the propaganda produced by the tourist industry that focuses on London! Have you never considered Manchester or Nottingham or Leeds or Newcastle - superb cities steeped in history and well known for the friendly populace, especially in Manchester, which is a growing, vibrant and colourful city.
Manchester is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the world, which will take you all the way up to Scotland, and has a terrific night scene - as well as a plethora of interesting shops, theaters, stadia, museums, universities, cathedrals (including Salford's contributions) etc., etc. Open your horizons and travel up to the North. Experience the delights of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales - and drink the best beer anywhere (or so I'm told).
Forget London. Aim for Manchester - we do have a large airport, you know!
Sheesh!

Give me a list of Manchester goth shops and I might just be tempted. That said it's not like we wouldn't see more of england, and europe for that matter if we went travelling.

Okay Dansk you win. If I go to Europe I'll visit Manchester too. *bows before you*

Dansk, stop trying to mislead everyone - all the guide books are right. London is the place to be and be seen. Imagine someone from New York returning home and saying 'Ive just been to Manchester', nobody would know what they were on about!
I have many friends overseas and they all either have visited London and loved it or they want to visit London. None of them have any interest in the North, in fact they want to bypass it to get to Scotland. Thank goodness for flights from Londons 4 (four) international airports all with connections direct to Glasgow.
And as for scenery, what about the delightful south coast, the wonderful villages like Henley on Thames and the genteel countryside of the home counties. Quite a long way from Moss Side!
It's such a shame that us Southerners can be so unbiased and appreciate culture from around the world whereas you northerners seem to be stuck in the past and view the whole world through your tiny closed minds!
As for the aposta curry I might have to have second thoughts after writing all this - a punch on the nose from you might hurt!
p.s. I hope you are taking all this in the spirit with which it was intended.
Regards

That's what I'm saying! All the guide book writers (likely written by southerners) have never been past Watford Gap!! Foreigners need to get the true picture and find out why it is that Londoners hide the truth about Manchester and other illustrious northern parts - they're far superior!

I heard you were Billynomates, primarily because they've heard how great Manchester is and they all wear United shirts!
And as for scenery, what about the delightful south coast, the wonderful villages like Henley on Thames and the genteel countryside of the home counties.
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha. Stop it, my stomach hurts. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha. You're comparing Henley on Thames and the home counties with the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales! Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha. That's hilarious Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha.
Quite a long way from Moss Side!
Have you seen it lately? Lots of regeneration! It's no loner (the old) Brixton of the North.
It's such a shame that us Southerners can be so unbiased and appreciate culture from around the world whereas you northerners seem to be stuck in the past and view the whole world through your tiny closed minds!
Really! How come we're known as the friendliest cosmopolitan city in the world. And our minds are so closed that the BBC has decided to move its base to Salford Quays (that's Greater Manchester, by the way) - well away from London!
As for the aposta curry I might have to have second thoughts after writing all this - a punch on the nose from you might hurt!
You (and your partner/spouse/children) will be made extremely welcome and I sincerely hope you can make it (I can always punch you later!)
p.s. I hope you are taking all this in the spirit with which it was intended.
I wouldn't have gone this far if I hadn't. That's another thing, Mancunians are known for their warm sense of humour!!
Hope very much to see you at the Curry!! Let me know for definite so I can book you in.
