While thinking about more Bible related legends depicted in films, a rather obvious one came to mind...the Ark of the Covenant. Do you think it still exists, hidden somewhere? Or do you think it was captured and destroyed following one of the defeats of Israel? Or, perhaps, do you think it never existed at all, and is just a legend?
Do you believe the Ark of the Covenant still exists (or ever existed)?

My personal belief in this area, based on lots of TV viewing, is that the Ark of the Covenant DID exist, but it was not what the Israelites thought it was, and that the remaining fragments of it are most likely preserved in Ethiopia. I believe the Ark was a wooden Leyden Jar (a primitive electrical capacitor) that was capable of storing enough energy to kill a man if it discharged through his body.
My future opinion on this subject will be heavily influenced by TV Guide.

I believe the Ark is real and there is solid proof because it is mentioned in the Bible and a feature length movie was made about it. Irrefutable evidence!

I believe in the Ark of the Covenant too. Professor Indiana Jones discovered it prior to WWII and the US government has it stored in a secret warehouse. I know it to be true, I saw it in a documentary.

I think that the israelites did at one time have an old box full of $hit that they drug around the desert with them and then... Well that sums up my beliefs on it I guess!

I think that there is sufficient evidence that it was a real object. The History Channel showed some ancient engravings and artwork that depicted the ark of the covenant. Even Biblical scholar Elliott Friedman who is a believer in the Documentary Hypothesis believes that it was real. I think that it was most likely captured and melted down or simply lost.

I doubt it ever really existed.
But now I'm curious about those ancient engravings you mentioned Arthur. What have they been dated to? Are we talking before the late sixth century? Or were they likely post exhile?

Are you serious? What made it conduct electricity? I know absolutely nothing about electricity. Do you happen to know which university? I would appreciate it if you could PM me with whatever info you have. I really want to read about that.
