It's about 10:00 AM EST in Hollywood, FL this morning and we just heard on the TV news about this tragedy.

The news also reported that his wife has not even been notified yet because she is in another country hiking. I feel so sorry for her and their children and to know she has to come home to hear this sad news. It's heartbreaking.

This saddens me deeply. What a huge loss for his wife and kids. I can't imagine what Terri must be going through. Very tragic.

The Guy was a complete showman and seemed like a good egg too...genuinely caring for the environment.

Yes, as much as you can tell what someone is like from TV, he did appear to be completely open, "as you found him", and a genuinely nice guy who cared for his family and the wildlife around him.

Not sure why exactly, but this hit me hard when I heard it last night. As many have said, he seemed a very genuine guy and a hell of an entertainer. Tragic for his young family.

I just saw this on TV a few minutes ago. Very sad.

He was a crazy SOB, but you just couldn't help liking him.

I was shocked and very saddened to hear of Steve Irwins death....His show is on the Discovery channel at 6 pm tonight.

I remember when is first child was born...He was so proud....showing her off on his show.

Does anyone remember the commercial he did a few years ago with the posionious snake where he pretended he had been bitten and fell dead?

It reminds me about the doctor in south america who was eaten by a huge croc some time ago. the croc came out of nowhere and grabbed the doc. right out of the boat and under the water and they still have not found his body yet. Such a loss to all. They both worked hard in the work that they enjoyed doing. They made a great contribution in their fields of endeavors.
