What's Your Opinion Of Cops Making Roadblocks Just 2 See If Someone's Drunk

They have been doing that in NY for a long time.

It's worth it to save lives.

I'm sick and tired of hearing about persons loosing their lives because of some uncaring drunk person who decided they could handle their liquor (when they really could not) and ends up drinking, driving, and killing someone (s).

If you do not drink and drive, you should not have a problem with the roadblocks.

Your freedom to kill someone and be punished for it afterward?

My personal belief is that it is wrong to punish someone for a crime they have not yet committed. Punishing for a crime they might commit is wrong.

If you do not drink and drive, you should not have a problem with the roadblocks.

I dont yet I still have a problem with it...

Here they have roadblocks on the freeway and breathalise EVERY driver, quickly and efficiently. It is a very good idea because you DO NOT have the "right" to endanger other road users.

It makes me laugh when you Americans bleat about your precious rights yet are all for stricter laws pertaining to gay marriage and abortion.

In NSW Random Breath Testing has been in force since the early 80's - with no real community outcry. The general limit is 0.05 but goes down to nil for inexperienced drivers: as it is a quantifiable measure of blood acohol no questions re weight etc come into this. SOme people do "seem" to drive better after a few, but pray like hell that nothing out of the ordinary happens.

I prefer RBT to continue rather than have the continuation of the alcohol fuelled carnage that was prevalent before - it enforced resonsible behaviour on all drivers and has (I believe) altered community behaviour. Yes, you do get the criminals who drive while disqualified, but they are soon picked up.

IMHO please find some other bandwagon when it comes to civil liberties - I do not wish to be killed or seriously injured by a criminal (which is what we regard drunk drivers as) simply by venturing onto the road as a driver, passenger or pedestrian.

Your freedom to kill someone and be punished for it afterward? Hell of a lot the freedom is going to do for the victim who is maimed or dead.

Would you really want it any other way? Think about what you are really asking the government to do. With your line of reasoning, maybe the government should put us in jail when we are born, untill we can prove we are not a threat to society. Ever heard of the phrase innocent until proven guilty (in a court of law?) Judge Dredd not withstanding.

And if you want to think I am in favor of some totalitarian state, I guess you can.

Mommy, why are we in this handbag, and why is it getting so warm?

Exactly WHAT kind of state allows anything with no restrictions unless you actually kill someone?

A FREE one, thats which. And besides, there are plenty of restrictions on the priviledge of driving. But none of them should affect our 4th amendment rights.

And that is the exact reason why I don't care if the government reads my mail, or listens to my phone calls. I even hear in a few years they are going to make the television a TWO way device, and make them madatory in every room of your house. You know, just to make sure you don't fall down and hurt yourself. I think this is a GREAT idea. Then they could even monitor what you eat and mandate that you do your morning exercises, (after all, a poor diet and no exercise is a PROVEN killer of the innocent) and be sure that you do them!

Yeah, and I hear they have plans to very soon SCAN your home from the street to make sure you are not doing something illegal. You won't even have to know they are doing it! Man I'm I ALL FOR THAT! You just never know when someone might be having a drink (or a smoke) before they get in their car, and they will soon be able to nip that in the bud!
