Does anybody notice that they love quoting people who are not JWs that say the end is near?

"Just around the corner." That phrase echoes in my mind like no other part of my sad JW legacy.

One of my earliest memories is of overhearing my parents talk with other JW parents about how wonderful it was that we wouldn't have to attend junior high or high school in this system..

    HA!!!

After the big disappointment of of 1925 the millions who did not plan on dying needed a hope for the future to keep them in the Borg. The outbreak of WWII and later the Atomic Bomb kept JW's on the edge. It was easy to manipulate JW's into an expectation that Armageddon was almost upon them. Every generation it seems, gets suckered into this "right around the corner" game.

*** w95 3/1 p. 17 Living Up to Our Dedication "Day After Day" *** Do you ever make that mistake? When you dedicated yourself to Jehovah, did you think Armageddon was just around the corner?

Oh Jesus. Let's see, it was 1992...78 years from 1914, which meant only two more years until the very upper limit of what was then understood to be the number of years implied by the word "Generation" was reached. "Deep in the last days" and various similar phrases were continuously used in almost every magazine, in CO talks, at conventions, public talks...OF COURSE I THOUGHT IT WAS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER YOU DING-DONGS!!!! THAT'S THE VERY CORNERSTONE OF THE SALES PITCH YOU GIVE TO PROSPECTIVE CONVERTS!!!!!

I swear, I want to find these guys 30 years from now and say, "That's a pretty long hour, huh?"

To which they would say - "Well you know that with Jehovah a day is a thousand years, so an hour would be..."

You'll never have to worry about "Insert problem here" because the end will be here by then. I can't tell you how many times I heard that!

In the late 60's early 70's they deffinitely had me believing it was right around the corner. It deffinitely put my life on the wrong road.

Its funny how a change of perspective can really change your perspective. Back in the day I could justify the long period of time they been saying this with "mans perspective on time is different than god's. 50 years, 100 years is nothin" or "Isaiah prophed the end of Jeru more than a hundred years before it actually happened"

Now it all seems so stupid.

I can understand why the Watchtower keeps predicting the end of the world and saying it's soooo close. It works and has made them rich. If over 120 years of false prophecy has worked in the past, bring on another 120 years of the $ame. People are gullible. The Watchtower will always have followers.
