I won't ever forget. This is the first year I haven't felt some fear on the day. I don't know why that is-I am still crying whenever the subject is raised(any day of the year). It is good to remember the love, good to remember the people and to remember how, for a brief shining moment, our country really came together for each other. That was the good from the evil, and something that is good and hopeful and defiant of those who tried to destroy us. I appreciate the heroes-all of them.

Sunday morning, I heard the preacher say
Thou shall not kill
I don't wanna, hear nothin' else, about killin'
And that it's God's will
Cuz our children are watching us
They put their trust in us
They're gonna be like us
So let's learn from our history
And do it differently
I hope
For more love, more joy and laughter
I hope
We'll have more than we'll ever need
I hope
We'll have more happy ever afters
I hope
We can all live more fearlessly
And we can lose all the pain and misery
I hope, I hope
Our children are watching us
They put their trust in us
They're gonna be like us
It's okay for us to disagree
We can work it out lovingly
For I hope
For more love, more joy and laughter
I hope
You'll have more than you'll ever need
I hope
You'll have more happy ever afters
I hope
And you can all live more fearlessly
And you can lose all your pain and misery
I hope, I hope
There must be a way to change what's going on
No, I don't have all the answers
I hope
For more love, more joy and laughter
I hope
you'll have more than you'll ever need
I hope
There'll be more happy ever afters
I hope
We can all live more fearlessly
And we can lose all the pain and misery
I hope, I hope

As a New Yorker, I will certainly always remember that day. I can still remember the smoke I saw in the distance in the Manhattan air, all the uncertainty about whether there would be more attacks to come that day, etc. While I certainly have strong feelings of antipathy towards many of the actions taken by the government since then in the name of the tradgedy, I'm nontheless grateful that nothing of this magnitude has happened in the US since.

I'd like to remember the 30,000+ under 5's who die every day from preventable diseases and malnutrition - often from a direct result of policies of large, western countries.
That is 10x the number who died sept 11, every day. Little kids who had shitty short existences. Because we like to eat lots of cheap food and make pointless car trips.
Do the maths. I'm sorry but Sept 11 was inconsequential in comparison.

I hear people saying we don't need this war
I say there's some things worth fighting for
What about our freedom and this piece of ground
We didn't get to keep 'em by backing down
Now they say we don't realize the mess we're getting in
Before you start your preaching let me ask you this my friend
Have you forgotten how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout bin Laden
Have you forgotten? They took all the footage off my T.V.
Said it's too disturbing for you and me
It'll just breed anger that's what the experts say
If it was up to me I'd show it everyday
Some say this country's just out looking for a fight
Well after 9/11 man I'd have to say that's rightHave you forgotten how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout bin Laden
Have you forgotten? Now I've been there with the soldiers
Who've gone away to war
And you can bet that they remember
Just what they're fightin' forHave you forgotten all the people killed?
Some went down like heros in that Pennsylvania field
Have you forgotten about our Pentagon?
And all the loved ones that we lost and those left to carry on
Don't you tell me not to worry about bin Laden
Have you forgotten?Have you forgotten how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout bin Laden
Have you forgotten?Have you forgotten?
Have you forgotten?

Simon, I can respect your opinion. What are you doing to make a difference in the deaths of thousands of children? You're right, I personally am not doing a thing to help the unfortunate children of other countries. I am doing my small part, I adopted a child with mild retardation, but I can't be everything to every child. As far as short, pointless car trips, I ride a bicycle when going around town. I only use my car for work and school.

On that day, as I drove home from work, it seemed that every station I turned to on my car's radio was playing this song. As I listened to it, I had to pull over because I was tearing up. That is my strongest memory of 9/11/2001.
I know many won't get it, but some of you will.
Proud to be an American
Lee Greenwood
If tomorrow all the things were gone I'd worked for all my life, And I had to start again with just my children and my wife, I'd thank my lucky stars to be living here today, 'Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can't take that away.
From the lakes of Minnesota to the hills of Tennessee, Across the plains of Texas from sea to shining sea. From Detroit down to Houston and New York to L.A., There's pride in every American heart and it's time we stand and say:
I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free, And I won't forget the men who died who gave that right to me, And I gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today, 'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land God Bless the U.S.A. -

XJW, I love that song by Lee Greenwood. It should be adopted to be a national song like "God Bless America," "Star Spangled Banner," and my favorite, "America, the Beautiful."
