Life IS hard to deal with.

My son is in ICU and my wife's sister-in-law's dad just died this morning.

My son was going with my daughter to Charlston SC for the weekend. She went by to pick him up and he fell over and wasn't breathing. She had some training in giving artificial respiration and was able to revive him until the medics got there. We thought he was dead. He is doing better this morning. She was a wreck when we got there while the ambulance was loading him. She passed out a few minutes later but came to, but was shaking and crying.

They think it may have been caused by a combination of pain pills he is taking for his back. The doc just prescribed a new one two days ago.

They took him off the respirator and he is talking OK now and the doc is going to let him sit up a little later. I think he will be OK. It's been about 20 hours since it happened.

I'm sorry that this has happened. Sounds like your son will be ok, but I can't imagine how terrified you guys were and how worried you still must be.

I hope everything works out well for you and your family. I feel the sorrow and pain you are going through right now. I know the feeling of your child lying there and his life is in the hands of someone else..you feel helpless sometimes...(It is hard to comprehend this if you have not gone through it...your emotions are up, and down so quickly.) ...be strong though...

Maybe they need to get to the bottom of the problem with his medication? Some of those pills can be deadly combinations....some slow your breathing right down... Thank god, he had someone by his side at the time of him passing out. Your daughter was a brave soul to have the courage to help him.

Please know your family is in my thoughts.....

ken p. i am sorry. sometimes life does seem overwhelming. my mother almost died about 3 weeks ago - rushed to hosp. with internal bleeding. no one had a clue. she accepted three blood transfusions and now seems to be doing ok. my father-in-law has just been diagnosed with bladder cancer, stage 3. my sister-in-law, age 42 with 2 little kids, has just been told she may have heart disease and will undergo angiogram on oct. 5. i had a surgical breast biopsy on weds. and do not yet know the results. as i have been waiting i got word that a very close childhood friend succumbed to breast cancer on thurs. nite. when it rains it pours. i will keep you and your family in my prayers. maybe you could say one for me too. nowisee

When I see what is happening to some others on this board I guess I have it pretty good. I'll be thinking of you nowisee, hope things work out ok for you and the family. I guess we should just appreciate it when things are going good.

Wow! It scares me to read it Ken. Your family is fortunate to have you in their lives, like a bolder in the river.
