Why are the world's anointed not called to Brooklyn to be Governing Body?

You know, the thing about being annointed, there was no test to prove if they really were in the organization. People would say they were, and you as another member of the congregation, could either accept that they were or see them as someone wanting some attention. In the ones I knew, even when I was a heavy believer, I always had a hard time accepting that they were what we said they were. I always wondered, "out of all the people who have done such amazing things and sacraficed so much, in the name of the Christian God, why would God choose this person?" In the end, my feelings were all correct ... they were just people seeking attention. Wonder if that is why the GB does not look to them, as they themselves, know this too. Perhaps they need to develop some BS test that sounds good and maybe weeds out some of those who know they did it for 100% attention. The others who truly believe they are, always have the power of the mind on their side.

I believe that some people convince themselves that they are annointed (whatever that really means), maybe they go into some kind of trance where they feel weird stuff, but more than likely they have mental issues, I have known a few where this was definitely the case.

While reading this thread, I thought that many people here still think that there are anointed JWs. But we are just discussing the doctrine in relation to the question. I am sure that most of these people understand that Christians get a "feeling" and many JW would get that same one.

I tend to agree with you, though, that they might have mental issues or seek attention. When I was 5 yrs old, my mother knew a family that all claimed to be anointed. Years later, they denied ever being of the anointed. When someone tried to mention it, they said, "You are mistaken. It was all a misunderstanding. We were never anointed." They leave out the fact that they SAID and THOUGHT they were anointed. They got alot of attention.

I really liked the following posts:

If I was of the annointed I woudld want to know why the GB doesn't consult with me

when making decisions, especially since they claim to represent the annointed earthwide.

How can you represent me when you don't even acknowledge me?

What I have learned in the course of my unbrainwashing is that....there are no annointed. This is just a made up thing, to be able to govern the flock. If you do research on the first president of the WTS Rutherford a supposed annointed and drunkard Rutherford another supposed annointed you realize that this is all bunk, these guys did things that were very questionable to say the least. I believe that some people convince themselves that they are annointed (whatever that really means), maybe they go into some kind of trance where they feel weird stuff, but more than likely they have mental issues, I have known a few where this was definitely the case.

The fact that the GB doesn't give a damn what any of them has to say all the while teaching that these people are the ones handling the spiritual food given to the R & F, is a clear sign that they themselves know this is BS, I mean come on, what are the chances that Freddie Franz was of the annointed and somehow his nephew Ray (whom I do admire) eventually happens to be annointed too.

At one point of my awakening after I was convinced that the WTS was wrong, I believed that the evil slave was leading them and that Jehovah would clear it up, back when I would post on ewatchman this is what he believes, I began researching different translations of the bible and bought an NIV bible, wow, I was blown away at what a difference a good translation makes, at one point I started seeing how the WTS has undermined Jesus's role in the religion, how everything is only about Jehovah, my appreciation for Jesus and his sacrifice grew so much, that out of the blue I said "Jesus I accept you into my heart" what happened next really was amazing, I felt overcome with love, I had goosebumps and just felt an incredible feeling" I was confused to say the least, I started believing that we all go to heaven, just from reading the bible because this is what is appears to say, in Romans.

IC-- although I really can identify with most of your post, it is hard right now for me to come to the conclusion that you did about the Bible. But your statements above are sooooo true.

    Thank you both for sharing.

Yes there are no anointed (only very spiritual persons perhaps) but still the way the GB acts shows that they are not true to their beliefs otherwise they would have consulted the anointed long ago. However they have lots of dirty little secrets and they can't afford outsiders to come in and find them out. Only trusted inner circle men will do. After all for a long time the president of the society held all power and there wasn't even a (effective) GB.

I have spent hours and hours in meditation and practising mental techniques. I can tell you, that in some levels of mental concentration and meditation, you do get feelings of touching the higher spiritual self. Which might feel like the Biblical description of anointing. Could it be possible, that even a Witness could get this feeling over a prolonged indulgence into the religious cult? Maybe, but how many Witnesses get this same feeling and say nothing? I still think it is all about attention, the "look at me, I am special" cry for help.

I haven't read all these posts but am just going to say what I have seen regarding the anointed and the GB.

    1. Regardless what the WTS says, there was no functioning GB in the WTS until around 1972. Before that, the board of directors (president, veep, secretary/treasurer) functioned as the ones guiding, actually only the president made any real decisions.

    2. The WTS has never consulted anointed women for any direction on doctrine except perhaps in the case of Maria Russell (CTR's wife).

    3. Since 1972, the only anointed consulted have been in-house members or well-known members that serve as branch overseers, etc., who have close communication with the Brooklyn branch.

    4. Many current members were COs/DOs that claimed to be anointed and served on the road for 20 or more years and were called into Bethel and trained under the "Nethinim" arrangement for several years.

    5. I have never known the WTS to consult JW men who claim to be anointed who are local but not known to the men in charge in New York. I have known of male JWs who purport to be of the anointed who write to NY with their ideas, but all of them have been ignored. (There could be cases that differ from this, but I figure they are rare.)

    6. I have asked GB members directly how God communicates with them and they say they a) read the Bible, b) discuss it with the other GB c) pray d) make a decision based on the majority opinion and the rest support it even if they personally have a different feeling giving it the illusion of being unanimous (pretty much what the elders do).

Any individual JWs who claim to be anointed and to get any direct guidance from God are going against the WTS policy that all info comes through the GB, not individual FDS.

I always felt the anointed position in the organization was a grey area, and tar baby that no one was willing to touch and do anything with. Odd, isn't it? As they were considered to be part of the ever important 144,000 we grasp to so much.

Pre-1975 I was a regular pioneer, we had our very own 'anointed' sister in our Hall, who used to temp. pioneer with us.

We had been told, "Don't ask the anointed, 'How do they know ?' etc. That's personal & private between them and Jah (Big J)."

So, being the questioning 'pre-apostate' type guy...I asked her, "How do you know you are one of the 144,000 ?" She said, "I've just always known I was...even back when I was a Baptist...I just knew."

I asked her, "Do all of you (remnant) get letters n' stuff ? Conference calls ? T-shirts ? Special meetings with all the Big "O's" ? (PO's, CO's, DO's, ZO's, BO's, etc) She said, "No, no one has ever asked me anything, because, as a woman...I can't teach."

And...she was OK with that !

I always figured a future hand-picked ruler...just kinda, mighta, coulda outranked any lowly elder ! I was always amazed that they would even dare give her 'counsel' on the Theo Mystery School, I mean, *I* wouldn't want her to remember later (in heaven) that *I* was the Elder that told her she needed to "work on facial expressions."

To me, back then, it just seemed like such a waste. After all, how special & wonderful these people must be to have been hand-picked out of the billions of people over the years !

"I am one of the few, the proud, the Marines, er, the 144,000 Anointed... chosen by God to be a ruler in the heavens ! And all I got was this lousy T-Shirt !"

    Rabbit's droppings...

Well, in the first instance, the WTS has so digressed from its original mandate that they don't really want anyone rocking the boat. They're all about wielding power over millions, and don't really want to share that throne, least of all with Christ.

The nouveux anointed either leave (like myself) or are usually classed as mavericks who have some of their own ideas. Often they get squashed down or labeled heretics/apostates - hence the "evil slave class". The few who can swallow the camel and keep their noses clean might climb the ranks somewhat, but only if they're male.

If I was of the annointed I woudld want to know why the GB doesn't consult with me when making decisions, especially since they claim to represent the annointed earthwide. How can you represent me when you don't even acknowledge me?

Chances are that you wouldn't do any such thing.

The result of such an "experience" is usually incredibly humbling, and the last thing you really want to do is lead the mases or grumble when you're not having your views represented. Besides, each man and woman is supposed to be a priest and king in their own right, so why should a few octogenarians in a land far far away bother you?
