Alcohol is their only way to anesthetize themselves to go on with all the garbage . Their wives get the sleeping pills , prozac , and valium . When we were first married my husband was appalled at how many over drank to the point of intoxication . He came from an abusive alcoholic homelife, and as an adult does not drink very often at all himself . He thought jah's organization was going to be so different . In the hall here it is known by many that two sisters have drinking problems ,one is still a pioneer . One Elder for sure has a habit of over indulging and several of the MS do too. For some reason it never seems to be a big deal . Now we have underage drinking going on ,and they are finally seeing what their own bad example is reaping . In the past there were several times we had local needs parts were it was brought out not to drink alcohol before meetings .(Some had complained about the smell of it on the breath of a few MS before the meeting) Also not to drink in the hotel rooms at assemblies ,( I have an elder relative that would dispose of their empty beer bottles in the dumpster so as not to stumble the maid ! Hahaha)

Something funny came to my mind when I first read the subject line - One time after the memorial I asked my father what did they do with the wine since no one could drink it- My father laughed and looked at me and said, "Your mother's uncle drinks it!" I never quite understood that comment until years later when I learned that he was an alcoholic even though he was the congregation's PO and the city overseer. He also took much pride in a picture he had displayed in the Kingdom hall's Library with him and Fred Franz....to this day he is still known to have a couple of drinks before each meeting.....

we had an elder who drank a lot.for years he got drunk driving tickets..paid his fines , get more tickets..pay his fines.. still drank and drove, was still an elder in good standing till he had a wreck and his car and name was on the front page of the local paper. THATS when they finally removed him as an elder.

    its all about appearance.

My mom is not an elders wife but needs excessive alcohol, prozac and sleeping pills. She won't admit to the doctor that she uses alcohol-even when I simply asked a question about it while in a consultation with her. She flat out lied about it. (She had told me that she was on an antidepressant that was OK to take with alcohol-another lie-then denied the entire incident to me and the doctor)

I think the JWs ought to just have AA meetings there at the hall before the ministry school or something. Since everyone is stuck there all night anyhow.
